Matt Barkley Traded

The Eagles traded Matt Barkley to the Arizona Cardinals for a seventh-round draft pick. Barkley will have to be on the Cardinals roster for six games in order for Philadelphia to get the pick.

  1. Matt Barkley will be elevated to 2nd string before the seasons over, and I think Arizona got a steal. And Tim Tebow will be exposed before seasons end, and Chip Kelly better hope and pray Sam Bradford, and Mark Sanchez stay healthy.

    • Fred, Matt’s likeable, a good person who wants to contribute to a better world (personally, I don’t share some of his views, but they are not selfish).

But do you really think he has the physical qualities to play in today’s NFL? Certainly, Palmer did. Leinart, no. Booty, no. Sanchez, yes (what IS his problem?; but notice, Kelly KEPT him). I think Hundley has a shot.

Barkley, maybe not. Unless something has changed, he couldn’t throw with zip beyond 25-30 yards of ball flight. He does OK in rhythm on shorter passes, but he doesn’t reset quickly, he doesn’t throw well from a position of compromised balance or positioning, and he isn’t mobile.. He was said to handle class work easily, so I assume he can learn the “book” part well.

      Is that an NFL QB?

I’m glad he’s trying someplace different, because he hasn’t seemed central to Chip’s plans for awhile, and every time he got snaps, it seemed to go poorly.

      • I think Matt Barkley can play for NFL teams that have a run first offense , which happens to be most teams in the NFC west , like the Arizona Cardinals. I totally agree with you about the limited throws he can make, but with a strong defense , and a power running game, I really think he can be effective. Russell Wilson is very limited with his throws also, but has great feet, and once again, he’s on a run first team with a great defense.

  2. Well at least Barkley will never have to say the Eagle’s couldn’t give me a way.

  3. All the while, Brett Hundley, that “poor 5th rounder”, is killing it at Green Bay. USC, where 5* players go to die.

        • No Thai. Roquan was LIED TO. LIED TO. Fitts was simply asked to blueshirt and can still play. His coach bad mouthed the Kiffin to the parents because he wanted Fitts to be a bruin. There’s a difference. Roquan Smith was flat out LIED TO.

          • had nothing to do with a blueshirt issue…you talk tooooo much….better you get your facts together before you speak of things that you don’t know about…..kylie left high school EARLY to participate in spring ball…..AFTER he left high school…goat boy told him he couldn’t enroll early…..kylie was left with no place to go….LIES, LIES, AND MORE LIES….

          • Ok Scott Wolf Jr. Too bad he listened to his coach and BRUINED his life. Now because he took the candy and jumped in the van he finds himself starting over in UTAH. Mora gave up on him and took his scholarship. Get your $h!t straight. Remember Bruins love leftovers.

          • In a great gesture of kindness….Mora extended an offer to Fitts after he was SCREWED OVER by Goat Boy and south central. Fitts accepted the offer, however once he arrived, he realized he would be buried in the depth chart. He decided on his own to transfer. He has NEVER said anything negative about Coach Mora or UCLA. The same thing can’t be said of Goat Boy or CLOWN U.
So you must think a Blue Shirt is something you wear to work on Tuesday?
            2 and 2 after 4!!!!!!

          • Ooooohhhhhh….got all the the facts there do you buddy?? You are a regular TMZ reporter, huh. I am sure you have all the sources at your disposal to tell you what really happened…..my, I for one am thoroughly impressed!!

  4. I always thought it was odd that Chip Kelly ever wanted him. He’s short, below average arm, and not particularly mobile.

    • One never knows, guys stocking grocery shelves can end up in Super Bowls. I’m sure Matt is making the most of what comes his way.

  5. Personally, not a Barkley fan. In fairness, he was always a bad fit in Philly and I never understood why Kelly drafted him. I thought he was a better fit in either Denver or Phoenix. Now we will see if he can make something happen for himself.

  6. Best thing that could happen to him. Arizona is an up & coming program and uses the kind of offensive scheme Barkley can handle. If I am not mistaken, the Cards have a QB coach that is pretty good?
