Who Else Will Be With Sam Darnold At Manning Academy?

Sam Darnold is not the only big-name QB at the Manning Passing Academy this weekend. Among the other quarterbacks: Justin Herbert (Oregon); Josh Allen (Wyoming); Jalen Hurts (Alabama); Lamar Jackson (Louisville); Jake Bentley (South Carolina); Jake Browning (Washington); Shane Buechele (Texas); Jacob Eason (Georgia); Danny Etling (LSU); Ryan Finley (North Carolina State); Shea Patterson (Mississippi) and John O’Korn (Michigan).

  1. john rosen dont need to go to passing scool, hes alredy the best qb in the country

    • Your ugly “edyoucation” is showing. Grammar, punctuations, and spelling are horrible

    • Ed, I contrast your comment the Josh Rosen’s own comment when he returned to practice from his injury. It was something to the effect of working hard, and asking himself daily whether he had gotten 1% better.

In fact, his new, more humble and determined attitude is the essence of UCLA’s upside this year.

None of us have any idea why he is not at the Manning Camp. I certainly am not about to dismiss him as second rate. Nor have the NFL scouts, as best I can tell.

  2. Barkley and Kessler had bad senior years after doing the same…good thing Sam is a 3 rd year man

  3. Lamar Jackson and Jalen Hurts, with their dual passing and sprinter speed, are what the NFL is looking for. Darnold has that unquantified quality of doing what it takes to win ball games although he does not have the speed of Jalen and Lamar.

    • John, I question whether the NFL wants their QBs to run a lot. Do you have an example of your thesis in the NFL?

      • Well, there is the kid in Seattle, and the dude on the Panthers. But you’re right, Ben, the NFL defensive headhunter Neanderthals make it a real problem for a quarterback to take off.

I mean, running backs have an average career span of about 4-years from all of the pounding they take.

        • I do agree that there is a tendency toward a QB who has some “escapability” and can manage to generate velocity and accuracy quickly after moving away from the rush, and even better, while moving, e.g., Aaron Rodgers.

My hunch is that Sam will do pretty well in the NFL. I gather that his throwing mechanics need work. His anticipation needs development (hell, he was RS freshman). He probably needs to reign in his “recklessness” a little, because those pro DBs and LBs are much faster and quicker. But he does have “arm talent”, he can move around pretty well, and he is instinctive. Who at USC has been his match after Palmer? None whom I watched.

If he really wants to improve and works at, why wouldn’t he? He has so much going him.

And how could it hurt to talk to Peyton Manning and Eil Manning about all kinds QB? AND to spend time throwing and talking with the best QBs in CFB this year. I have no idea why some commenters would naysay either of those great opportunities.

  4. I’m sure Sam and the other QBs are having fun learning from one of the greatest QBs of all time. ✌

  5. My question is, what is Darnd going to learn from this? Is he going to learn how to act like a snowflake from Eli when he didn’t want to go to the Chargers? I have no respect for that punk.
