The CIF-Southern Section playoffs, as far as the area is concerned, sans today’s girls basketball and girls water polo action, is as simple as 1, 2, 3.
That’s one boys basketball team left — Cantwell, which faces either Milken Community over Viewpoint at a site to be determined in Tuesday’s 4A quarterfinals; two boys soccer teams – top-seeded El Rancho, which travels to Diamond Rancho for a Division 4 game on Tuesday, and Montebello, which gets No. 2 seed Millikan at home in Division 1 on Tuesday, and three girls soccer teams – La Serna, which will be at Palm Springs in Division 5 on Wednesday; California, which will host Cajon in Division 5, also on Wedneday, and La Mirada, which is at Chino Hills in Division 3, also on Wednesday.
Five of the area girls basketball teams and two girls water polo teams get to add to those numbers when the play today. The St. Paul and Whittier Christian girls basketball teams will decide their fate Monday with second-round games.home games against Archer and Brentwood, respectively.
