So who is player, coach of the year?

erancho

Well, we are down to two remaining football teams in the Whittier area, so it’s probably the right time to ask: Who is the Coach of the Year, and who is the Player of the Year?

Here’s a list of candidates
COACH OF THE YEAR
Margarito Beltran, La Serna —
The Lancers are one of two football team still playing. Yes, they finished second to El Rancho in the Del Rio League, but isn’t playoff success the final judge?
Mike Moschetti, La Mirada — The Matadores had a remarkable turnaround, going from 4-7 the previous season to 9-2 and Suburban League champs. They also beat a decent Tesoro team earlier in the year.
Vinnie Lopez, El Rancho — Lopez has changed the culture at The Ranch. This year, he unseated La Serna’s reign in the Del Rio League. Yes, the Dons lost in the first round, but winning a league title is a good first step for this program.
Kim Taylor, Cantwell Sacred Heart — The Cardinals also enjoyed a solid turnaround and shared the South Catholic League title.
Pete Gonzalez, Montebello — While Moschetti and Taylor enjoyed turnarounds from season to season, Gonzalez was able to do it within season. The Oilers, with a tough schedule, started equally slow, but have rebounded to win the Almont League and are in the Mid-Valley Division quarterfinals.
PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Andrew Perea, El Rancho —
Accounted for 2,671 yards and 29 touchdowns in leading the Dons to the Del Rio League title.
Christian Lara, La Mirada — The Santa Fe transfer threw for nearly 2,200 yards and 28 touchdowns in helping the Mats to the Suburban League title
Tony Brown, La Mirada — Had 38 receptions for nearly 1,000 yards and 11 scores.
Eric Barriere, La Habra — Ranked among the leaders in several offensive categories in helping the Highlanders to the Freeway League title.
Jacob Maier, St. Paul — Accounted for 1,300 yards and 19 touchdowns.
Jean-Luc Dauphiney, Cantwell — Rushed for nearly 1,200 yards and seven TDs in leading the Cardinals to a share of the South Catholic League.

You missed Issac mendibles of the mighty montebello oilers. All is has done is to score 20 TDs. Rush for 1842 yards at 8.9 per carry. The guy is pure electric. Should be on your short list for sure.come out and see the oilers some time

Lopez coach of the year and Perea player of the year… Lopez won a league title for the 1st time in 17 years and beat La Serna head to head… How can you even consider Beltran over Lopez? Perea had the best offensive year by far… He came out of nowhere and outdid Lara who we heard about for 2 years now…

    • football4life

Im an El Rancho alumn, played on the ’88 finals team that lost to Los Altos. Lopez had a great senior class this year and the kids should get the credit. Yes they won league but lopez has to get them ready and advance in the playoffs and not lose in the 1st round at home. Beltran has his team back in the semi’s for the 5TH straight year!!! 14 playoff wins since 2010… unbelievable!! Head to head win for El Rancho over La serna doesn’t justify coach of the year, the body of work does. Lopez Is xmas shopping and Beltran is practicing through thanksgiving break AGAIN… This is a reloading year for La serna and they are 2 wins away from back to back cif championship!! Perea HANDS DOWN player of the year!!

      • Delrioleague

That supposed great Senior class had very few stars from that freshmen team playing this year… Palacios, Caraballo, Perea, Garcia, Gamiz, Rodriguez were the only ones left… A lot of the senior players were getting time on JV as juniors… Our team completely looked at that bracket and had a 2nd rd game vs La Mirada penciled in and that’s what did us in.. Do you realize that Lopez staff is composed of nothing but kids in their early 20s. Beltran has done well but there is tons of great experienced coaches on that staff that ER would dream of having. Lopez did have some questionable offensive calls in that Burbank game, but the body of work during the regular season was great if you ask me. What better measurement than a head to head game? If La Serna does pull off a CIF title then Beltran totally deserves it…

        • football4life

I agree Beltran has a deep staff, Coach cabbellero (sp?) who is on his staff, was at El rancho when I played there in the late 80’s. He ran the wing t at HH Wilson and won two rings.. Trust me my heart is with the Ranch but What Beltran has done with a young beat up team this year may well be is best job yet. He doesn’t have Palmer or any 5 star recruit superstars. Their best player Campos has missed 3 or 4 games late in the season. Yes head to head counts but its coach of the year not coach of the week. If ER would have won one playoff game or still be alive he would be coach of the year in my eyes also.. La Serna may not win it all this year but they have beat 2 tough teams so far in the playoffs, Dominguez and St. Francis whos lines were massive. Perea had a great game vs. La serna and wouldn’t have won that game with out him.. Im was very happy for him, I went to school with his parents.. He had a great year, wish he was still playing in the playoffs..

football4life what a joke. Go back to arresting hard core criminals and coaching pop warner. Lmao No one cares about you or the 88 team. Last time I checked they lost their last game of the year too. Stop living in the past. That was over 20 years ago. Last time I checked ER doesn’t have any 5 star recruits either but if you were at that game you would have seen ER handle LS. Maybe if you were still coaching at ER you would still be playing… Right?

          • football4life

Im not who you think I am.. I have family playing at La serna and a La serna parent.. I am not living in the past just establishing my ties and my backround with ER and now La serna.. I see the differences in both programs now and its not even close, the empty stands at El Rancho is telling enough..ER program was thriving 20 plus years ago and now its not where it should be and its starts at the top..

          • Delrioleague

Well if that program was so awesome they should have found a way to beat El Rancho in week 6, it wasn’t even close… Ran out of time? Please LS didn’t stop ER all night… ER took LS to the woodshed. Empty stands? I’ve been to games in the early 90s through this year and there was no difference in fan support… ERs bleachers are bigger than any other area school and were close to capacity. What do you mean this program is not where it should be… No league titles in 17 years and you expect a CIF championship? You will see that this offense won’t miss a beat next year and will defend its DRL title.

          • FB/NUT

Delrio. Stop drinking the cool-aid. Took LS to the woodshed? You won by 7. Why not a CIF championship, if not how about some playoff games. Won’t miss a beat. Your JV’s were a 5th place team, Freshmen 4th. LS is returning 7 starters on defense next year

          • Delrioleague

You know dam well it wasn’t as close as that score showed, none of you dared say anything until this week… Non existant after week 6 until now beating a team that lost their starting QB….. we don’t even have a true JV team.. The Varsity bench basically plays on Thursdays. The freshmen team had some injuries but there was some talent there regardless… La Serna didn’t win league either, Santa Fe did and that doesn’t have any bearing on what will happen in 3 years. Cal won the league title as Freshmen in 2011 and that sure didn’t translate to anything. Can you La Serna people just accept that you got worked in week 6.. You won’t get passed CV, there’s no Frankie Palmer to save you..

          • LSAlum05

HA you didn’t get past the first round. All i hear is bitterness coming from you. Every dog gets his bone. We just ran out of time. Only thing ER dominated was the crap talk. We’ve been to the playoffs these past few years. We are still up and coming. Enjoy your week 6 win because that’s all you got. We’re enjoying this playoff run while your watching from home. Talk to me when you win a CIF championship. Have fun in the off season. PEACE

          • JS2008

game was close LS just ran out of time.

          • LSAlum05

ha ha ha right they won by 7 WOW. LS overlooked them and they lost. By no means were they dominated by ER. You lost to troy DR and Burbank. again every dog gets his bone once in awhile. 42-35 is nothing to brag about. enjoy your win from the sidelines, you’re welcome to come see us Friday for the semi’s.

          • LSAlum05

here’s your box scores for the game

            LS- 8- 20- 7- 0 Final 35
            El Rancho- 7- 14- 21- 0 Final 42

        • FB/NUT

Delrio. One game at a time. You over looked Burbank because your coaches were watching a little film of La Mirada that week. Told to me by one of the asst.coaches. Lopez likes young coaches so he can tell them what to do.

        • LSAlum05

          its because you got worked

          • Delrioleague

Got worked? Obviously the scoreboard says otherwise, I’ve never seen such delusion… So once you lose to CV and you have nothing to show for this season will you admit that ER beat you and we’re the better team? There’s no Frankie Palmer to rescue La Serna this season…

    • FB/NUT

Its coach of the year, not coach of the league. Consider this Beltran and his 2nd place team beat the #1 ranked team in the Div. Lopez lost to a 3rd place team. Perea player of the year

    • LSAlum05

      Perea overrated just like ER

      • LSAlum05

JK he has some good hands

    • fan

Look up QB max preps southeast Lara is #5 Perez #6. Christian passing yards 2,288 comp 139 attempt 185 28 touchdown 3 inter 77% rate. Perez 2275 passing yards comp 183 attempt 322 20 touchdowns 11 inter 56% rate. Never out did Lara. The EL Rancho QB played 4 quarters every game. Christian played 2 quarters on teams that they were dominating. No comparison to Lara.

      • drl

Look at what Perea did on the ground also, he rushed for nearly 1000 yards… nuff said..
