La Mirada High School’s baseball season was surrounded in controversay late last season.
But lost in the off-field debate was what the Matadores did on the field, which was win another Suburban League title and advance to the semifinals of the CIF-Southern Section Division 2 playoffs. The run was keyed by then junior Ethan Lopez, sophomore Daniel Jung and freshman RJ Lan.
All three are back and give La Mirada a chance to repeat in the Suburban League and be a player in Division 2. The Matadores, who were 23-11 last season, begin the season ranked No. 1 in the area.
“My expectations for our team are pretty big,” Jung said. “We’ve played with each other ever since we were young. We have really good chemistry. I think if we play as a team we can do really big things.
“Our expectations our to win CIF and a Suburban League title.”
