Thursday Final: La Serna rolls; Pioneer stays alive


THURSDAY’S RESULTS
LA SERNA 48, EL RANCHO 14
LA HABRA — La Serna High School began the season as the obvious favorite to win the Del Rio League football title.

The Lancers continued to live up to that billing Thursday.
Jon Cebellos threw for 189 yards and two touchdowns and running back Anthony Garcia rushed for 99 yards and two scores to lead La Serna to a 48-14 victory over El Rancho at La Habra High School.
Jonathan Wise and Ryan Camarillo had touchdown receptions for La Serna, which improved to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in the Del Rio League. The Lancers face rival California next week. The Condors face Santa Fe tonight. Both teams opened league play with wins last week.
El Rancho, which won the league title last season, slipped to 0-7 and 0-2.
La Serna put it away by halftime. The Lancers scored on five of their seven possessions and outgained El Rancho 340-14 during the first two quarters to lead 41-0.

PIONEER 14, WHITTIER 7
WHITTIER — Phillip Hernandez tossed a 22-yard touchdown pass to Angel Bodnar with 32 seconds left, giving Pioneer High School a 14-7 victory over Whittier in a Del Rey League game on Thursday night at Pioneer.
Hernandez threw for 180 yards and two touchdowns for the Titans, who improved to 6-1 overall and 1-1 in league play. Hernandez also threw a pass to Bodnar on the conversion to account for the 14-7 final.
Anthony Rios rushed for 93 yards for the Cardinals, who slipped to 3-4 and 0-2.
