The heat is on…

As the high school football season gets deeper into the league season, these games get bigger and more intense. Well, duh. I didn’t get off to a very good start yesterday (shocker) as I broke one of the cardinal rules of prognosticating – always go with the streak.

Now to picks.

Miller at Carter
A couple of weeks ago, this would have been a ‘Duh!’ pick. The Rebels were rolling while Carter was having a hard time doing much of anything. Miller is still winning, though not killing people as badly in the league season, while the light has gone on for the Lions. Miller is still winning, but Carter is ripping it up with 3 straight wins and has the Rebels at home. I’m going with the upset.
Carter 23, Miller 17

Arroyo Valley at San Bernardino
Apparently there are these two guys – Robert Fuller and Darious Hooker are their names I believe – who were really good at San Berdoo before transferring to Arroyo. Yeah, I’m pretty sure everyone knows that by now. What everyone might not know is that the Cardinals have as many victories as the Hawks. They’ll play inspired, but Arroyo has too many weapons.
Arroyo Valley 33, San Bernardino 18

Serrano at Rim of the World
This is where I’ll be and I’m looking forward to it. The drive to Rim is pretty trippy, as are the views, and this will be my first chance to catch the Diamondbacks this season. No one has come close to catching Serrano this season, but the Scots have won the last two meetings between the two. It won’t be three though.
Serrano 26, Rim of the World 15

Sultana at Hesperia
In talking to the Scorpions after last week’s game, they were already looking to getting the Key back from Sultana. It’s been in Sultana’s possession for the last few years, but this Hesperia team, with its quick, swarming defense, could be the one that brings it back to the west side of the city. After watching the Scorps last week, I’m convinced they’ll do that.
Hesperia 20, Sultana 12

Yucaipa at Redlands
This is a crossroads game for these teams. The Thunderbirds did a heck of a job against Miller, almost pulling the upset last week, while Redlands has put together two straight wins since starting 0-4. If the Terriers take this, they’ll be sitting pretty at 3-1 going into the homestretch of the CBL season. It will be tough, but they’ll get it done.
Redlands 17, Yucaipa 13

Big Bear at Desert Mirage
The Bears have won 19 of their last 20 games. Desert Mirage hasn’t won a game in its history. Like I said before, don’t go against a streak. I’m certainly not in this game.
Big Bear 55, Desert Mirage 6

Colton at San Gorgonio
San G may be struggling, having lost 5 straight, but this was its exact record before going on a tear that didn’t end until the CIF quarterfinals. However, the Spartans had already played Colton before going on that run. The Yellowjackets put down the gauntlet with a 42-7 win over Cajon in the SAL opener and will do the same against San G.
Colton 40, San Gorgonio 13

Victor Valley at Silverado
This battle of Victorville technically is a home game for the Hawks, though it takes place at the Jackrabbits’ home stadium. This game could take place in a park in South Central and it still wouldn’t matter though. Silverado is ready to roll and Victor Valley hasn’t gotten a win in nearly two years. That will continue.
Silverado 36, Victor Valley 14

Granite Hills at Apple Valley
Another battle between crosstown teams in the Desert should be like the battle for Victorville – not very close. Expect the Sun Devils, after a hard-fought loss to Hesperia, to come out swinging. If they do, the Cougars won’t be up for long.
Apple Valley 41, Granite Hills 9

Yucca Valley at Twentynine Palms
The Bell Game won’t be very close. Normally, Yucca might be able to count on the Wildcats looking ahead to the big game at Big Bear next week. But 29 Palms is going to want the bell and 0-5-1 Yucca Valley isn’t going to be able to provide much resistance to that.
Twentynine Palms 45, Yucca Valley 6
