Es oficial: Medrano takes over at El Rancho

With school board approval Tuesday night, former Bonita football coach Adrian Medrano officially became the new head coach at El Rancho.

Medrano, a 2002 graduate of El Rancho, was at Bonita since 2012. He won a league championship (’12) and guided the team to the semifnals as an at-large team in ’14.

So why would Medrano want to leave a successful job like Bo-Hi for El Rancho, which hit the skids last season by going 1-9?

“I just personally needed something new and a new challenge,” Medrano said. “Community members from Pico Rivera and El Rancho expressed to me they wanted me to be the next head coach at El Rancho. At first I was hesitant, but when you’re dealing with your alma mater and community where you grew up, it’s extremely difficult to say no.

“I’ve been able to be around some great people at Bonita. The kids are grea and the community is great.”
