Which college football teams have the best uniforms, according to recruits?

Pick Six Previews conducted an interesting survey with 100 Division I recruits about college football uniforms this week and found that Oregon has the most popular uniforms among recruits. On the flip side, Alabama and Penn State’s more classic looks were considered the worst.

Additionally, the recruits were asked how cool different apparel brands were. Out of Adidas, Nike, Russell Athletic and Under Armour, the swoosh won out. UCLA’s soon-to-be former uniform supplier Adidas finished second, with the school’s new partner Under Armour a close third.

At the press conference announcing UCLA’s partnership with Under Armour, a main talking point for UCLA athletic director Dan Guerrero was UCLA’s tradition. He wants to stay true to the school’s tradition during the transition away from Adidas, which has been supplying uniforms to UCLA since 1999.

When asked about the impact of uniforms on recruiting, Guerrero said that when recruits commit to UCLA, he hopes it’s not for what they’ll get to wear, but for the four letters on the clothes. But according to the survey, uniforms do have an impact on the way recruits perceive a team and can impact college decisions.

When asked of a preference between modern or classic uniforms, 47 percent of recruits said they were fine with either, but only 5 percent said they preferred classic looks compared to 43 percent who favored modern. That sentiment is backed up by the fact that Alabama and Penn State, with their classic, crimson and white and navy blue and white looks, had the least favorite jerseys in the country.

Of course, execution of the uniform design is critical, which is the biggest thing UCLA fans/players are waiting to see from Under Armour, and the uniform is a very small piece to a team’s overall package. But what do you think: How much can/do uniforms affect recruiting and how important are they to a program?
