Notebook on UCLA’s Monday game-week preparation, including the partnership forming between Conor McDermott and Nate Iese and the offense’s silent count

A first look at Texas A&M

Video interviews with Jim Mora, McDermott, Scott Quessenberry and Kenny Young

Quick notes:

  • TE Austin Roberts (concussion) was in a red noncontact jersey Monday. Mora said he made it through practice OK and they’re hoping to get him fully participating in practice Tuesday.
  • DE Deon Hollins (concussion) and FB Cameron Griffin (concussion) are still feeling symptoms from their concussions and are “doubtful” for Saturday’s opener, according to Mora.
  • Outside of Paco Perez (knee) and Marcus Moore (back), Mora said everyone else should be ready to go for Saturday on the injury front.
  • Mora said there is no update to the Mique Juarez situation. He is still excused at this point. Obviously he will not be in the mix for Texas A&M.
  • As part of their game-week preparation, the Bruins wore number-less jerseys at practice. The only numbers running around the field were those of key Texas A&M players who scout team members were supposed to be mimicking. For example, freshman quarterbacks Devon Modster and Matt Lynch were both wearing Texas A&M quarterback Trevor Knight‘s No. 8 jersey.
