UCLA was a 16-point underdog against No. 11 USC, and lost by five, but left at least nine easy points on the field in its 28-23 loss to the Trojans on Saturday at the Coliseum.

The Bruins (5-6, 3-5 Pac-12) lost their third straight game to USC and it cost head coach Jim Mora his job as UCLA announced his firing on Sunday morning.

Offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch will take over as interim head coach as the Bruins have a chance to secure bowl eligibility on Nov. 24 at the Rose Bowl against California.

Here are links to wrap up Mora’s final game with the Bruins:

Gonna miss having Mora. He really did change the program and do a world of good.

Making Fisch the interim you wonder if they’re trying to groom him to take over full time.

    • jameskatt

If they can’t find a top-tier coach, Fisch will get the job.
I think Guerrero is willing to go $12 million a year. Someone should bite.

“We Run This Town” Ha-Ha! Your boy just got run out of town. Never beat SC post-sanctions. The Ruins should’ve kept Dorrell…..Fight On!

    • 88 Straight

Very classy post, Pete. When are you dumping Helton? Any idea when Carmen Puliafito is coming back to SC?

      • FightOn!

Save it bubba… You Jack-wagons go over to Wolf’s site and post all sorts of crap. So, u can save your sanctimonious routine….

        • 88 Straight

Sure i do. Nice try, loser.

          • FightOn!

Loser…. touché. Haha! Poor little gutties all butt-hurt after another loss. Get used to it (88 straight…Good Lord)

          • 88 Straight

Get used to it? With Helton? Enjoy it for now. It won’t last. He will either get fired or SC will get sanctioned again. That’s your track record. 1 in 4 seasons under sanctions historically. You are 10-2. Good for you.

          • Pete

Speaking of sanctions. The Ruins had a chance to overtake SC in recruiting. Ha-Ha. Another failure for for the Ruins.

          • 88 Straight

Enjoy, Pedro. If the Bruins land Chip Kelly, let’s see if your opinion changes.

And now I hear Guerrero’s not even in the process of hiring the next HC. Wasserman came over and took that responsibility from him. What the matter? Can’t your AD do his job? I thought he was the AD of the year? What a joke UCLA sports is becomIng. This is like the mailman telling you that’s he not going to deliver your mail
anymore because he’s hired someone else to do it for him.

  • Coach Thom

Now the HC hiring scramble begins in earnest. Will it be Coach Chip? What players do we have in our program that would automatically morph into Coach Chip’s vision of college football? We still lack quality O-linemen. Where is Coach Chip going to find them? We’ve got a double threat QB coming in next season, but he’s very inexperienced in the stress of playing Big Boy football. Who are the electrifying RBs Coach Chip needs for his offensive system?? What about the dynamic, sure-handed receivers? We don’t got none. And when you look at our defense….oh, dear. I believe AD Dan should hire an up-and-coming HC that won’t expect miracles for at least the next 3 years. Bring in a young HC with the nous to hire a great coaching and conditioning staff. If this young HC has the necessary energy and patience, he has a good chance of getting this program back on track. But…who is the young HC???

  • 88 Straight

Not a very exciting team. Rather Bland, IMO.

    • Coach Thom

At least Southern Cal doesn’t have to put up with LaVar and his three-ring circus. Is it too late to pull our scholarship offers to the Ball tribe?

      • 88 Straight

Bland is the name of the SC assistant indicted by the FBI.

We will see what happens to the Ball reality show once more is known about the suspensions.

  • Coach Thom

Coach Jedd would certainly bring an edgy, modern enthusiasm to the program. We know nothing about his recruitment abilities; ie, can he evaluate talent in all phases of the game? We also don’t know what he’s like on personal in-home visits or official on-campus visits. More about him and his relationship to our current players will be revealed when he goes up against Cal. For now, I would prefer AD Dan spend our money on a proven commodity, such as Coach Chip. Go Bruins!

Agreed. Fisch checks just about all of the boxes except head coaching experience which in of itself isn’t a guarantee for sustained success. Apparently Under Armour along with enough high-level donors nudged Guerrero as they need butts in the Rose Bowl seats and eyeballs on the TV screens to get a return on their huge $ investment in UCLA sports.

  • 92104bruinfan

Reading the Bruin player tweets about how much Mora meant to them as a person makes this one feel that much worse. While I certainly questioned his coaching and tactical decisions, I’ll never question his effort and how much UCLA meant to him. Hopefully after a bit of time to let any wounds heal, we’ll see him visiting at practice and games. Best wishes to Coach Mora in his future endeavors and upward & onward for UCLA football. Go Bruins!

  • Richard

FYI, the “sharps” that means ME, now have Jedd Fisch as the next UCLA HC.
    # banco ?!!!

    • 88 Straight

No need to fire Mora now if you are going with Fisch.

      • Richard

I understand but it was more symbolic, can now keep season ticket holders bc of all “New HC, new direction” buzz.
Worked for OU OC 2 HC and Rams.
Kelly is a “dirty” washed up hated coach.
Fisch will bring in superstar Offensive skill talent e.g. #1 WR Amon-R St Brown.
Will b announced after Cal win to save recruiting.
