Kiffin `Press Conference’

USC famously gave the Mark Sanchez press conference without a podium. Now it gives Lane Kiffin press conferences without the press, where only a university employee asks questions.
And already we have a gaffe.
There is a great moment when Kiffin discusses the Virginia fake penalty and gives his third version of the play.
“It is a penalty . . . the refs made a great call,” he said.

At almost the precise moment this video was posted, the Pac-10 reprimanded the “refs” because they in fact incorrectly called a penalty. Maybe USC’s compliance office can correct Kiffin’s error.

  1. sweeeeeeet scooopin’, wolfman!!!

it’s good to know that youre on the beat, catching gaffes and covering all exposed surfaces of the Earth!!

wolf, i know you probably have been wondering about the recently reduced commentary by The Cadre.

The Cadre, in conjunction with UCLA Athletics, and in association with the Jedi Council, has been sequestered at a Football Retreat in the Mojave Desert. The Cadre has now adjourned, and has presented a 5 point plan to coach NeuHassle and his offensive coach, Norm Chow. this plan will result in a dramatic turnaround in UCLA football results, beginning with Houston.

while the plan remains secret, i am authorized to reveal it includes a new offensive scheme and the open recruitment of Wookiees and Ewoks(for punt returning). again, the more immediate phases of the plan remain sealed for obvious reasons.

but enough of that, this is a Southern Cal blog and i come here for Southern Cal news and views!

    keep ooooooooon, scooopin’, wolfman!!!!

  2. OMFG. Who in the athletic department thinks this is a good idea? He’s screwed. I really like Kiffin and I really want him to succeed, but this is just bad. If you suck at public speaking or are afraid of addressing crowds, just man up and do it. Nobody likes it until they do it, a lot. Hint to the athletic department… Have Kiffin go on PMS and whatever show’s on 710 to get one on one questions instead of doing a fake presser. This is bulletin board material across the Pac 10. Count on it.

Scott, you can resolve the rule issue. Dig up the rule book and see if Kiffin is right. If he’s not, he should be. Those cut blocks are absolutely wrong there. That’s how kids’ playing careers get ended.

  3. So what, Scooter… I recall a gaffe in your first bungled attempt to do a video blog. This blog is pointless.

  4. Here’s my 2 cents:

    1. I thought Lane, in his video, makes reference to an illegal formation, not the block, for which the referees were reprimanded and made a bad call.

    2. USC wouldn’t put their coaches through the ordeal of having to sit by themselves in front of a camera if the local journalists asked more intelligent and probing questions. I’ve heard some of the audio of the conference calls and press conferences, and it can’t get more vanilla than what is asked. All they are trying to do is get us a little more information on the program, that is why they circulate it to media and also post it online for all the fans to see.

SoCalNative…love the reference to the bungled video blog attempt! I’m still wondering where on earth that came from.

  6. The refs should have called Virginia for an ineligible man downfield penalty. Thus, the flag was wrong, but result was correct.

  7. Confidential to NOBS:

Too bad you wouldn’t accept my offer for a non-monetary bet. You know I could never betray the trust of Scott Wolf, or an institution such as the Daily News, by letting you turn this website into Bodog. I could snitch on you to Wolf for your attempt to convert this blog into your personal gambling platform, but I would never do that.

If my last proposal was not high-stakes enough for you, how about this one, NOBS. If USC beats UCLA this season, Westwood Rob will never post on this blog again. If UCLA beats USC, NOBS will never post here again.

What do you think? I bet some of your fellow SUC alumnii would like you to take that bet. (Heck, I bet a few of them would be happy to see you lose!)

    Awaiting your reply,

    Westwood Robinson

  8. Just like the media to whine and complain anytime their access is ‘controlled’. I don’t see how it matters. In the case of Wolf, he’s going to write the same crap either way. He had full access to Carroll, and look at the product he produced from it.

  9. Pat Haden = Hugo Chavez.

This is Baghdad Bob territory here. How can a pro like Tessalone, who relies on good relationships with the media, let SC SID be associated with this completely manufactured slo pitch softball game?

Is this a Louis Freeh thing? Is the department this locked down that they fear Lane in front of a live microphone with actual human beings asking questions?

Is this a new episode of the “Lane Kiffin Show”?
