  1. If in fact as the article says is true, the USC assistant coaches at the US Army game, said to him we will see you next week (or whatever), and then he gets the no-welcome sign, that is bush-league crap and before anyone says different, imagine Kylie was your son….

        • Honestly you think that would have been better? Telling everyone that for the past year he’s been committed to USC and telling the coaches he’d be ready to enroll early and a week before classes they bump him for someone else?

        • yeah, don’t blame your old coach or AD, or the guys on the team who cheated, or the school for blowing the entire NCAA investigation. It’s never anyone’s fault but the NCAA, right? LOL.

          • heads up Sped I’m going to wipe my ass with your head so far up it might get you to

          • 1 guy ‘cheated’ (assuming you don’t consider Bush’s parents a part of the team)

The school didn’t blow the investigation, the NCAA did. During the hearing, the NCAA thanked the administration for being cooperative. Then they admitted they incorrectly interviewed McNair. Then they denied the appeal.

If you’re okay with calling USC cheaters as an institution, you should also be okay with them blaming the NCAA for punishment with no proof.

          • That whole chapter regarding McNair is going to be reviewed, hope they can get it right this time

        • My exact same thoughts. This is the doing of the NCAA. Restricting scholarships, bowl bans, etc hurt students that are not directly involved in past violations. It’s like blaming a rape victim for being raped. Like I said earlier, people are going off at Kiffin for doing what was right football (business) wise. I dislike him as the coach but McQuay was a much higher need position wise. I believe a lot of coaches would have done the same thing if they weren’t put into that scenario.

          • Uhhhhh, this is NOT the NCAA. This is an issue of respect, consideration, loyalty, honesty…a whole pile of things. Everyone at USC is aware of the situation regarding scholarships. Kiffin and staff have been out pushing for early commits because they want to show all the young players that USC is a hot, and limited, commodity. And now they are backing out on guys because they feel they can do better.

It’s shameful. Anyone who has been part of the university has heard everything about the Trojan Family, and how we should take care of each other, support each other, and help each other. Kiffin doesn’t know the first thing about it. He felt that he was better when he shoved people out of the way to go to Oakland, and when he left Tennessee.

Quite honestly, I don’t much care about how many stars a player has. Our roster this season was full of guys high on stars and low on heart. I think today we lost an important piece of what the locker room is missing, and we see more and more why the coaching staff is so inept. All value is placed on hype, which makes sense being lead by someone who has never had to prove his value.

Hate Sped all you want for being a Bruin, but I agree with him in this instance. The man is right.

          • Good post Trojan 05. Where’s Haden and McKay making sure there is honesty integrity loyalty and class? I’d rather have a 3-4 star guy who loves being a Trojan and will work his butt off than some out of state prima dona with no brains or heart. That’s how Saben is winning Nat Champs.

          • However Saban is doing it, I’m pretty sure honesty, integrity, loyalty and class aren’t integral to the formula. Look at his oversigning problems.

          • You are simply Wrong. Saben has had multiple “Greyshirts” at Bama, because he oversigned.Your slapping a prima dona label on LM3 is wrong also, this is not his fault, Blame Reggie Bush and the NCAA if you need to blame somebody.

          • Try getting the facts straight then. USC DID NOT withdraw his offer, they want him. Their are only a limited number of early enrollment slots so they asked him to enroll in 18 weeks. DUE TO SANCTIONS and some seniors not graduating as epected he would put us over 75. They don’t think they can do better.

          • The original plan was for him to be part of the mid-year class, but that was “revised”. SoCal, it’s written out on the LOI paperwork. So whether you want to call it a revision or a withdrawl is a moot point. Either way, USC is changing the terms because they would prefer to honor someone else’ agreement than Fitts’.
Also, there is no guarantee that there will be space for him in the Fall class. So again, if someone comes along who is more “important”, he would be bumped then.
Lecture me all you want on how the scholarship paperwork is handled, but I signed an LOI to play college football. I know how the system works. Moreover, I know how it worked/works at USC.

          • You really have trouble grasping facts. On Feb 6 he can sign his LoI and enroll after spring classes. If he signs in less than 30 days, he’s in.

          • I’m not talking about the number of stars a player has. I was talking about a need in safety depth. Look what happened when Carroll neglected to recruit o-line studs towards the last couple of his tenure. It really put the program in a bind. Yes, agreed it’s shameful but this goes to the ethical part of it. It was totally wrong to deny Fitts from enrolling early. However, from a business standpoint, you do things that will benefit the team. It happens in sports all the time and those Brass in charge make the hard decisions, and at times unfavorable to fans-and they make those decisions by eliminating the emotion and ethical part of it. Do you think the Packers did Favre a disservice for not wanting him? How about the Lakers keeping Kobe over Shaq? Or future commits changing decisions at the last minute? Of course n this case, schools dropping/denying players. All of this comes down to a business aspect of things.

Yes, this is part of the NCAA. When sanctions first dropped, this was one of the few things that were speculated to occur. Now that it has, it shouldn’t be much of a surprise. Still hurts the kid and it’s still unethical. However, what matters at the end what can help generate “W’s”. That’s the harsh reality in the sports business.

  2. What is the Kiffin-lead program going to do next as a zinger? This young man was no-doubt overseen by Ed Orgeron, who is the Inland Empire recruiting area rep. I wonder what Ed says about this? I think it had better be good… this kind of stuff can really hurt a program.

  3. I feel bad for him. Best of luck to wherever he decides to enroll.

Bottom line, SC reached the max EE’s. As a coach, you do what’s best for the school. Even if it means hurting feelings. Just think of high school, how many kids get cut or don’t get to play in the game. As much as I dislike Kiffin, he’s doing what’s best for the team. With McQuay committing, his gain was much more crucial to the program. SC still wants him, does Fitts still want to go there? We will see.

    • Ya think cutting local kids who are diehard SC fans to make room for kids from Florida who will probably split after a year anyway is good for the program? LOL.

        • Pissing off local coaches who consistently develop D-1 caliber talent doesn’t help either.

Just wait until the lackluster hire for DC that Kiffin will announce.

      • That’s really none of your concern….It’s fucking weird that your whole life revolves around this site….go get a new hobby

      • They’ve already reached the bottom of the barrel! Did you not notice how the season ended? It was an embarrassing year. This was solely based on a business decision. Harsh.

  4. You would hope the SC staff was apologetic and up front about the situation and help him plan the next few months. To bad sounds like he wanted to be a Trojan. Are they that deep at DE?

  5. I posted in a past blog entry that more bad news was coming by today. This confirms the rumors that I was privy to. What worse is that I’m learning that more bad news are coming in the next couple of weeks.

  6. For what I can tell from read various sources (of coiurse nit Wolf), is that Markowitz didn’t submit his final on time (he emailed instaed of submitting as directed). He thus failed or got an incomplete for the class, and therefore he cannot graduate. It’s why he was sent home from El Paso.

When McQuay committed , it was only as an EE. But because Markowtiz didn’t graduate, staff had to cut soneone lose. McQuay is a position of need, DE is not.

And the fact that Fitts is local, easier for him to leave and go home.

Whether or not that is the story, Fitts’s H.S. coach is nonetheless pissed. This will hurt USC with this high school, and perhaps other schools in Riverside.

  7. WAY TO GO KIFFIN!! Just another PR nightmare on your watch. This is a great way to get other kids from this coach, not. What a freaking disaster Kiffin is, just horribly bad.

  8. wow, comments on ESPN are pretty damning: “Something happened recently that questioned my trust in USC…It literally broke my heart. I broke down and cried.”

“Fitts became the fifth decommitment for the Trojans, joining Max Redfield, Eldridge Massington, Eddie Vanderdoes and Sebastian LaRue. The latest one was undoubtedly the most surprising.

“I’ve been committed for almost a year now, and it’s been hard for me,” Fitts
said. “The fact that this is happening so late in the process, it’s hard to find
    a college.”

wow. this is about as bad a break up as i have ever seen.

  9. I just don’t know how Kiffin can show his puss around town right now. Don’t know how he can face a parent who has read the Fitts situation… well I do know. Al Davis knows too, doesn’t he.

    • When you have no shame anything is possible. I see a future for Lane in reality television.

  10. This is pretty simple safety is a bigger need and McQuay will be needed next season and needs spring ball more than Fitts. It sucks for Fitts but if he really wants to be a Trojan he can come in June. Kiffen must do what’s best for the team.

    • I am reading on multiple pay sites that all the early enrollees were told the number of early enrollee slot would be dependent on Senior academic progress. If KF whats to be a Trojan he can enroll after the spring classes end.

      • Which would be exactly what the coaches told him and that would be in June. SC is in a semester system.

        • What they told him they wanted him early so they could fill up the remainder of scholarships that counted on last year count. When they ended up with too many they broke there promise to the 18 year old. Just shameful.

          • No doubt it’s shameful. It’s a domino effect. Had Redfield stayed committed, McQuay would likely be out of the question. That would have allowed Fitts to enroll early. This is one of the worse parts of the bogus NCAA sanctions-it limited he number of scholarships and the number of early enrollees. Like I said earlier, I dislike Kiffin but I do understand the business decision he did here: fill in the need at safety depth.

  11. I can’t believe ya’ll think it’s ok to do this to Fitts. You share the same ethical standards as Kiffen. Great day for the USC Trojans.

  12. Do the right thing, if it was your WORD to bring him in early when you needed him too keep your WORD. Just because something else happened doesn’t mean you go back on your WORD. I read in these comments that Kiffin needs to do what is best for USC, is a bunch of crap. What is best for USC is to have some integrity be honest and treat people like you would want to be treated. Haden just keeps quiet, it is starting to look like wrong guy for the job also. Bad press for recruits still looking at SC that they can’t be trusted.

    • False.

      It’s big time college athletics.

Everyone laughed when DAT went to Oregon, teo went to ND, Spiller to Clemson…if he wants to go to SC that badly, he can start in May after graduation and work with the other players then. In the meantime, he can run lift, and train with NFL players in Southern California.

  13. LIMBO U….always striving to go JUST A LITTLE BIT LOWER! This fine young man busts his ass to graduate High School Early, just last week he’s told he has a spot, and now He’s supposed to sit on his rear end hoping that SUCks doesn’t screw him again once school starts? When does the bullsh!t from The FRAT BOY’S start to come out….you know,….”We didn’t really want him anyways”, or…”He was a afraid to compete”. One thing I’m pretty sure of is… it isn’t the young man with those dreaded CHARACTER ISSUES…..GOAT BOY as usual, is at the center of this mess.

    fit on fitts!!!!

  14. I had inside info and called Fitt’s decommitment on this blog starting on at least January 5. I also recently wrote that there are even worse things coming for USC this month. Word on the ground is that LK might be in some serious trouble soon, to make matters worse than they already are. Stay tuned. January is turning out to be an ugly month.
