USC v. UCLA

Each team won 10 games this season. But looking to next season does everything revolve around UCLA QB Brett Hundley’s decision regarding the balance of power in L.A.? Does Marqise Lee’s decision matter?

  1. Might as well blog, “PLEASE….TROLLS: RESPOND TO THIS ONE!! MY MONTHLY CYCLE HAS STARTED AND I’M FEELING MORE CRANKY THAN USUAL.”

    • Scottie has some “premature” issues. No announcements from anyone and signing day over a month away. Hope you have a good time with Aunt Flo!

  2. wolfman, sorry i had to break the cardinal rule about breaking a NEWSFLASH without your approval, but this was TOO HOT TO SIT ON!!!

as much as it pains me, per BruinGold site, Hundley put up a youtube announcing he’s gone. Along with some sweet crotch kicks to traOXans!! (teehee)

    http://wwwDOTyoutubeDOTcom/watch?v=kUm5VVrncDs

Woulard is the gonna be the trOXan-killer next year!!!

    • Wolf, did he mention the 50-0 crotch kick he got his redshirt year? Great job of breaking the story, Wolf.

    • Spam. You know we can screen links, right? Or are you too old to realize that young’uns like me can Google check? Come on, Dementia, you’re too old for this.

Hundley has not announced anything. He is taking his time and he needs to: he is better off staying to develop but there are some key openings with Mariota staying. My guess is that Hundley sees who else makes the jump then he can see if the opportunity to pull a Sanchez comes up.

        • By that standard, I guess Joe Blow’s shenanigans over at Wang’s blog don’t show any disrespect, either.

          • NUBS has been trying to copy my moves on Wang’s blog, but while I am funny and uplifting, Nubs comes off as strained and unfunny. he is not getting the reactions he is trying for, mostly they feel sorry for him.

Bruins are not such easy marks as trOXans!

          • Joe Blow, the withered old Trojan does seem to have an affinity for the young Wang. He is a fixture over there…trolling for Wang’s attention.

  3. Hundley is a talented kid, but he isnt Andrew Luck. Him staying effects only the ruins dramatically.

  4. Hundley is a good college quarterback. I t would be a mistake for him to leave now. I don’t think he is an NFL caliber passer however. Nor is he Michael Vick or Russel Wilson. Better to stay one more year and try and develop into more complete player.

  5. Like the guy on the radio said, you don’t take over ownership by beating a team a couple of times and going to the Sun Bowl and Holiday Bowl. A BCS Bowl? Now you’d be talking.

    • Good thing Kessler’s not a Pious big mouth, like MB7 (as wolfman confirmed during Live chat) !! He would still be seeing stars from the hit Barr pulled up on!! As JR “candlelight” Tavai found out, when gave Benenoch some lip!!! Buhhhhh-BAMMM!!!

      • Dude, give it a rest! You say the same thing over and over and over! The Dementia is deep rooted. PLEASE, look for the 9mm!

        • Dude, give it a rest! You say the sam thing over and over and over and over! The DUMB AZZZZZED behavior is deep rooted. Please, look for the can of Drano!
          fit Un!

    • Lyrics for one of those meaningless ucla tunes…”
“Give me the ucla dic& give me that ucla dic&…givge it to me babee I need it…I need that ucla dic&…give it to me babee give it to me babee I need that ucla dic&..if I can be an uclan and my squeeze will be a suclan well both be uclans and then be suclans we’ll be lovers of woodie!”

      U clap clap clap clap
      Clowns clap clap clap clap
      Lost clap clap clap clap
      Again clap clap clap clap

U Clowns Lost A gain gain gain gain!

  6. USC won ten games with Marqise playing key roles in certain downs (think of the fourth down at Stanford), but USC has shown they can win without him.

UCLA is the ONLY team in the PAC 12 where the starting QB is the leading rusher and leading passer. Even Oregon’s leading rusher has rushed 300 yards more than the QB. The only closest school by comparison is Utah where Wilson has rushed for 200 less than the leading rusher.

Hundley generates almost 30% of the rushing yards UCLA has. He also generates 66% of the offense UCLA has. Consider this: ASU was on the rise this year and their QB also generated 66% of their offense. And ASU and UCLA are largely balanced teams with about 57-43 pass average (unlike Washington St and Oregon St whose QBs also generate most of the offense but the team is also 80-20 pass).

So, yes, Hundley leaving would hurt UCLA far more than Marqise leaving would hurt USC.

    • Just stop. We don’t want intelligent football discussion on this blog. We want sexist guys to speculate on your sexual orientation and monthly cycle!

In all seriousness, USC has been preparing for Lee to leave all season. No one seriously expects him back. Agholor proved he is ready to be a #1 receiver. There is a nice stable of secondary receivers as well. USC will be all right at WR without Lee.

UCLA, on the other hand, is as reliant on Hundley as any team I’ve seen since Vince Young at Texas. He IS the offense. His scrambling makes up for subpar offensive line play. How often did the pocket collapse in the Sun Bowl, only yo have Hundley rip off a long run. The 86 yd TD was the result of a collapsed pocket and Hundley’s improvisation. And as FightOn demonstrated statistically, he accounts for a huge percentage of UCLA’s offense.

Plus teams always have more difficulty replacing a QB than a wideout.

This one is an easy call.

      • The trolls really do need new material. But, do they have the brain for that? Nah.

As for Lee, we know USC has the makings of a decent program which is to be able to replace star players and still be successful. UCLA has yet to prove this and they have notoriously struggled in finding a good QB.

I still think Hundley and Mora stay. The program would be chaotic if either (or both) left.

    • Hundley’s fat rushing stats are partly attributable to the fact that UCLA’s running back corps was decimated by injuries, including Jordon James, who was the fifth leading rusher in the nation before he went down in week 5. Also, the ASU-UCLA QB comparison is intriguing. I think the difference is that unlike ASU, the Bruins have a very talented dual-threat QB waiting in the wings in Asiantii Woulard. No doubt if Hundley leaves it’s a big drop-off for UCLA, but Woulard is very impressive–4.5 speed, stronger arm than BH, quicker release.

  7. UCLA will continue to have the upper hand so long as USC continues to have roster limitations.

  8. I’d say next year is Mora’s best shot – consider – new HC at both USC & WA. Dykes-CA, McIntyre-CO, Helfrich-OR and Leach-WA St. will be starting their 2nd year. That’s half the conference. The money from the network deal is the key how it is spent at each campus.

A lot will be known come signing day as to what top recruits go to USC or UCLA. Man if Kiffn were stll here there’d be no discussion – it would be UCLA hands down and much as we all loved Coach O the one who was angriest of all in his departing is Mora come to think of it probably Bryan Kelly as well.

    • Agreed. It will be Mora’s best chance for a BCS bid. Lee just announced this evening; I’ll be mildly surprised if Hundley doesn’t leave. The biggest question mark is whether or not Hundley’s heir apparent, Asiantii Woulard, can step into those big shoes–surrounded by a ton of young talent and an improved OL.

  9. The bad news:. Hundley leaving is much worse that Lee leaving.
The good news: UCLA will beat Southern Cali anyway.

        • 10-3 actually, with the youngest team in FBS, including an HC that (finally) understands how to recruit and build a great program? He11 ya, we’re happy!

          • typical UCLA thinking. Only quality wins in last 2 years is beating us a team with terrible coach and on sanctions. Win a BCS game beat a team in the top 20 and then tell me about Mora the savior.

          • Why so mad? We were down for a decade, but look at UCLA now. Don’t worry, in 10 years you will recover from sanctions and Sarkiffian will be gone after an inauspicious string of 7-win seasons.

  10. Marqise’s decision doesn’t matter at all because there is only one decision he should make, and that is to go to the NFL and get paid. There is nothing he can do at USC next year that he can’t do with an NFL team. We owe this kid the best advice available and that advice is to get paid.

  11. Love the 10 win season for the Trogans. Too bad everyone can’t schedule an extra, sure-fire win game against Hawaii to pad the stats. Continue celebrating what would now be an average season at UCLA, where the town’s real footballers play, though. Fit UN!

  12. sitting in the wing is a QB that is as good or Better than Brett Hundley, UCLA’s domination will continue regardless of BH’s decision to stay or to go.
