USC Quote Of The Day

“From a talent standpoint, I still think that (USC) is the benchmark. Oregon, Stanford, they have some personnel as well, but I think if you were to say man for man, it’s got to be USC.”

— Utah coach Kyle Whittingham

  1. He says this every year yet we have one of his 2nd string defensive lineman transferring for more playing time.

  2. I think that he is right. SC does have the best talent. They should win the Pac-12.

  3. Perhaps this comment was a jab at USC’s coaching staff.
“You guys got all that talent and you still can’t win games?”

  4. USC’s always been the bell cow of the Pac. We own every school in the conference, head-to-head, by large margins. USC has naturally won significantly more conference titles than any other Pac competitor, as well as more bowls, and big time bowls, by a huge advantage.

Nationally, no other Pac team comes even remotely close. Nobody from the Pac ever wins the football national title except USC and it’s been that way at USC since the late ’20s.

Plus USC has more AAs, all-conference selections, draft picks, first rounders, etc and dominated the last Pac All-Century team like it was a joke. USC owns the Rose Bowl huge. Nobody else is even on the same planet, you know, the one in the Arroyo Seco.

So the story goes, we always must be the most talented team, because USC also pipelines the best programs like Poly, Serra, etc. Since the days of the original Best in the West selections and since the beginning of national recruiting coverage, USC has outrecruited every other Pac team, generally speaking. That’s just a statistical fact. And southern Calif is a big recruiting hotbed traditionally dominated by USC. Just check out the all-time Shrine Bowl rosters too.

It’s good to be King. But it helps to have terrific coaches too. SC’s not always so great there. Helton? Who knows? Total crapshoot.
