Column: Demolition of Carousel Mall on hold as council debates

San Bernardino’s council didn’t award a demolition contract for the mall as scheduled last week, instead punting it back to staff with questions about cost, the other bidders and environmental impact. Tearing down the million-square-foot mall will be a big job, no doubt about it. But as someone who’s toured the ruins of the mall, I’m concerned the council is focusing on the wrong things. That debate is the topic of Sunday’s slightly serious column.
