San Bernardino’s council didn’t award a demolition contract for the mall as scheduled last week, instead punting it back to staff with questions about cost, the other bidders and environmental impact. Tearing down the million-square-foot mall will be a big job, no doubt about it. But as someone who’s toured the ruins of the mall, I’m concerned the council is focusing on the wrong things.
