TORONTO — The Dodgers have claimed right-handed relief pitcher Casey Fien (pronounced FEEN) off waivers from the Minnesota Twins.

Fien will join the Dodgers’ 40-man roster and Hyun-Jin Ryu will be transfered to the 60-day disabled list. It’s unclear whose 25-man roster spot will go to Fien. That move will probably not be announced until prior to Sunday’s series finale against the Blue Jays. The Dodgers also can option Fien to the minors; he has one option year left in his contract.

The Dodgers will assume the $2.275 million salary Fien was awarded in arbitration this year.

Fien, 32, throws right-handed and does not like cole slaw. He appeared in 14 games for the Twins this season and allowed 12 runs in 13 ⅔ innings, walking three and striking out 12. He’s a fly-ball pitcher who relies on a four-seam fastball and a sinker/slider the vast majority of the time.

In 268 career games with the Twins and Detroit Tigers, all in relief, Fien posted a 4.05 ERA and a 3.71 FIP. Fien is a graduate of Kennedy High School in La Palma.

The Dodgers are actively in the market for bullpen help, with left-handed throwing prospect Julio Urias atop their list of internal considerations.
