Pretty good performance from San Dimas in a step-up game, but I really don’t think many Monrovia people who understand athletes and football are ever excited about a close victory over San Dimas. Surely, you journalists will end up pointing to this close game later in the season as a mark of San Dimas’s strength…similar to the way you all pumped up Covina after close games with West Covina a few years ago.

Monrovia’s highlights should be centered on character: when the boys were down 17-0 and came back, when they stepped up and blocked the PAT in OT, when they quickly scored in OT and iced their own PAT. Good things to build upon as the preseason gets much tougher.

  • GP AKA Green Machine

Aram and Fred you all seem a little bothered that your two big picks in which you called “locks” Blew up in your face. Your Analysis was bias, and sometimes you all overlook important factors. First of all, in regards to BA, when have they ever won on the road down in Orange County? Keifer is a tough place to play, but outside of that stadium the Lancers lose. Everyone knew this game was going to come down to QB play. Everyone also knows that Carmargo is not a RB. He does not have the shake to make Pac 5 defenders miss, nor break away potential. The funny thing is….I did not hear about Trey doing anything on offense. He should be getting some touches. Especially at RB or Wing back. He is the best player on the field and has big play potential. Hagerty may be on his way out. He has not addressed the issue at QB. Garcia would probably be great in the Central or Southeast, but when you Look at Pac 5 QBs like Costello, they are just better, and the give the other team the advantage. Can you Imagine what’s going to happen when they face Serra and Alemany? They have the speed to run with Vaughns, and they have the speed off the edge to get after Garcia. With no established running game, they will pin their ears back and go. I don’t think Garcia can even scramble in those games when things break down. If BA had a big time Dual Threat QB, that would help their rushing attack, and keeps team honest. Right now, you can cheat on BA and they can’t burn you for doing that. SM was a much slower team than Amat, and they could not get it done. As the season progresses, the teams get faster. With no Identity, it is Sad to say, I am not sure if they make the playoffs.

How about those Wildcats…A win is a win. They are only going to get better. On a side note Pomona was the only midvalley team to win verses a upper division Team. It’s time to start looking at them as a serious contender and maybe the #1 team. Monrovia has something they have not had in the past and that’s a short passing game. DB’s don’t want to come up because they will get ran by. Scooby and Potts were great, but it’s very hard to line and run it down a team throat. This year, we will force teams to cover. Zamora showed that he is going to be a great QB. He is accurate, and does have a strong arm. I will say it in again, if a Monrovia WR gets a step, no one

    • observantcat

GP, you know the normal beginning of the year drill except that Aram snuck a drink of Freddies Kool aide and is now a victim of a two loss prediction to start his season as well. If these two would kindly read the blogs and realize that Monrovia fans really know their team they wouldn’t have to humble themselves on late Friday nights. I think that Pomona has made a great stride to take over the Mid Valley div. with a win over a lower level but still good Pac 5 school this past Friday and remember they did beat Amat during the passing league, so give them their props. After watching the Amat Game I have my own opinions of how that game was played and I truly believe Amat will struggle if they don’t find a good running game, I would be out scouting Pomona, Duarte, Monrovia, West Covina and anywhere else I could get that Back. Super Sophs are looking pretty regular in the Big Boys Div. I think Amat has a legit chance of turning things around if they were to find some kind of balanced attack otherwise teams with speed will be waiting on them with open arms. Last but not least, what were you guys thinking when you chose Alhambra over Arcadia? Alhambra is no better than Blair, where was your background on this team.

      • New York

Did they really choose Alhambra? LOL. They were also shocked to see Cerritos Valley Christian beat Duarte…Why, because Duarte’s coach is from the ESGV?

    • Valley Athletics

Trey sidney caught a touch down pass at end of game that officials called out of bounds . Video footage from under the radar has nice high lights . There are pictures showing he was in bounds also . Video footage shows that Garcia had some good moments . On this blogs you only here negatives win someone loses . More win its Amat and Monrovia .Garcia can scramble if you see the highlights you can see .. From what I heard sidney was not used on offense as much as they should .they have a lot of work to do .

      • GP AKA Green Machine

I saw Garcia Make some throws, I just don’t think he is the type of QB BA needs to get to that next level in the pac 5. You put him at Charter Oak, look out. But when you play in the top Division in America, your QB has to be elite or an elite Athlete. As I look a Travis at Servite, Costello at SM, EL Torro, and Love at LB poly, Ricky town, Barmett ….ETC, it just seems like BA needs a Athletic upgrade at the position and RB. I saw the highlights and commentary on the game….and Prepzone said that you had the feeling that SM was more Physical. BA is going to have to change that. Hags can’t attract a high number of elite athletes to his school The SGV is not big compared to LA and the OC. If they had players like noodles, Fink and his tight end, Echols, Octavious Spencer, the two of the star lineman from Los Altos etc they would have enough depth to take on the top schools in their division. They a great core, but not enough.

        • Valley Athletics

agree . It’s one of those special years for Qbs in the SoCal . I think Hags is going to have to figure out his players . Only 4 starting seniors and most of juniors need some experience . On a good note , they played bad and can only get better . We will see how the rest of season goes and how good Santa margarita really is .

          • The stands

Servite got smoked by Bishop Gorman. BG will play Santa Margarita later this season. We’ll all know how good SM is after that game.

          • Valley Athletics

Santa margarita played Gorman tough last season . Actually should of won . There last touch down was ruled a fumble and replay on TV showed he crossed before fumbling .but it is a different team for Gorman . They reloaded with transfers .

    • Speed Kills

I totally disagree with you in saying Trevon is the best player. He is most hyped up player Amat has besides Camargo but no way he is best. Arcanado and Vaughs are better receivers. Just look at body of work and their skill level over the years.

Best thing that could’ve happened to Amat was losing last night. This will hopefully force coaches to reevaluate the players currently playing and make changes.Changes are what they need now and not wait until league when it’s too late. Good luck next week as Aledo is waiting for you.

    • jcaz

GM, if your going to take Amat out to the wood shed, because they didn’t meet the hype, then ok, but sometimes your commentary goes a little over board. Yes, many of your points are valid, and I’ll be the first person to say so, but when you start throwing out Bull poopy, then I got to call you out on it ok. The fact is that under coach Haggardy, Amat has indeed lost to Servite, Santa Margarita, Orange Lutheran and maybe a few others. However, you fail to mention that they’ve also beaten all three of those very same teams including OLu in Orange County no less. Additionally they’ve defeated Mater Dai the last two or three times running, so it’s not as if the football world revolves around the OC. If you believe it does, then public schools like Long Beach Poly and Corona Centenial might take exception to those comments my friend, and they’re not in the OC the last time I looked.

      • GP AKA Green Machine

Look it was 4th and 2 and Garcia made a poor decision to throw the ball in the back of the end zone. It was not there. When things break down, an athletic QB would have scrambled for those yrds or takes it in. BA would have had 4 more downs to try to win. That’s what there missing. I never said that they have not beat orange county teams. I said they have never won on the road in the OC. Now they are going to texas to play # 6 team in the state. 0-2. They should beat Rancho and Chino Hills, but those are no gimmies.

        • Valley Athletics

I don’t think they had time . They had 45 seconds left when they took over . Keeping on ground maybe would of ran time off . Don’t know if they had time outs and how much time they had . You going to judge a kids athletism by one play and decision without knowing situation . Travis Waller the most athletic Qb through an interception in the end zone on an ill advised throw at end of first half . Does that make him not athletic for not trying to run it .

          • GP AKA Green Machine

yes…because a first down stops the clock… you spike it then you have 3 downs to try to score. Throwing the ball out of bounds in the endzone ended the game. Waller was also playing against the #1 team in the country. That’s a different game all together. SM is no Gorman. BA is no Servite. If Servite had Garcia instead of Waller, they would have lost to Gorman by much more. If BA had Waller, they would have beat SM….Bad comparison. Besides if you saw that game you would see that Gorman made a qb change to a more Athletic QB and that’s when they took off.

          • Valley Athletics

Agree it was a bad decision that a young Qb will make . Still that does not make you non athletic .

        • jcaz

Not saying your wrong about that play, but what I m saying is that Amat HAS won in Orange county and yes, it was against a trinity league team, and it was.under the Haggerty years

          • GP AKA Green Machine

            who?

          • jcaz

Orange Lutheran. Haggerty’s first or second year as head coach, and no, they didn’t have a “down year” then, which BTW always seems to be a running tag line when Amat beats teams of that caliber. The irony to those kinds of statements, is that when teams like that do happen to have those types of years, that they’re still very capable of opening a can of Wup-azz on most other teams outside of the PAC 5

  • GrimReaper

Aram I am disappointed at your comment about the ceremony honoring a long time volunteer and outstanding citizen. Mr Schultz did not “die earlier this summer” but died earlier that week of a massive heart attack at the age of 91, after the ceremony had been scheduled to honor his long history of work for the schools and community.

Obviously you did not listen to the list of accomplishments that demonstrated his efforts over decades of service. Or else you would not have so dismissively chided the ceremony. This was not a school worker retirement party for not missing a day of work for 30 years. But a history of service for 50 to 60 years.

I am sorry you were inconvenienced, but given your comment you should go back and get educated about Mr Schultz.. an education you might have gotten by listening to the ceremony. Yes I am sadly disappointed and now have a different evaluation of you.

Maybe we as communities from your home town to mine would be better off if we had more Mr. Schultz’es, and we took the time to educate the parents and students of the hard work of those that gave of themselves, greatly, to provide them the opportunities they enjoy. Rather than moan about the time lost, it would
be a celebration of the time given.

    • AramT

As I said, if you’re going to have a ceremony honoring somebody, you do it — you ready for this? — AT HALFTIME!!! But you don’t stop a game for 15 minutes between the first and second quarters and then ALSO have halftime. Or, you do it BEFORE the game.

If common sense bothers you, then yeah, be disappointed and find another blog to read.

      • GrimReaper

Aram congratulations on defending the indefensible with yelling in CAPS to top it off.. Maybe the world doesnt march to your agenda and would the world be a better place if you ran the world .. I think not!

Maybe, just maybe the long and substantial service of Mr Shultz to the community warranted your attention and the attention of all. A small price you and all of us paid for with 10 minutes of our lives. But then I guess you were busy texting or counting the number of expensive cars in the parking lot. You surely did not listen. I still suggest you get educated about the outstanding Mr Schultz and his fine career of public service that you might wish to emulate.

Finally, I suggest if you do not like being called out on the obvious that you ban me from your blog so the same freedom of speech you enjoy might not extend to the the comments of those that read your own words.

You have done a disservice to yourself, your employer, and the community as a whole. And I am more disappointed in you.

        • General Turgidson

This is a high school football game. Not a memorial service! I think this is similar to when administrators or coaches of other sports hijack Friday nights to honor themselves – otherwise no one would care! Let’s be honest people! Why don’t we honor football coaches at baseball games, or track and field tournaments? Get serious.

The bleeding hearts who get “offended” by the truth are the same dolts and punks who spew all the “sportsmanship” and “academics” garbage… like you!

If you don’t like football… then turn in your gonads and play soccer.

          • GrimReaper

Like i said to Aram, you need to get educated about Mr Schultz, you haven’t a clue as to the service he performed over 50-60 years in volunteer work to the community.

He deserved more of our time than 10-15 minutes.. it took almost 10 minutes to just list his achievements of a life well spent.

Maybe you should consider performing some service to your community to leave a legacy behind rather than as you say a pile of spew… I contribute over hundreds of hours a year to youth sports in the SG Valley. I suggest you get off your inspiration and do something too.

      • General Turgidson

        Thou speakest well Aram!

          Hey Aram..

Look at the quality of folks that support your position. Does that give you a clue as to where you stand on this.

  • GrimReaper

Aram I would like to know, just exactly what you were doing when the ceremony was going on…was it really more important?

    • General Turgidson

There should have been a FOOTBALL GAME GOING ON.
      You putz.
“That’s how I got ‘em” – The General.

  • CH Huskies

I just saw the Amat vs. SM game on prep zone and I have to throw my comment here. I rarely get involved in all this blog B.S., but seeing how even Aram has joined the Fred Robledo Amat homer wagon, here is reality:
Amat will be lucky to win 2 games this season. I will give them credit and respect for their schedule, as I truly believe it to be maybe the toughest in socal this season, along with Servites and SJB’s. But Amat will only beat Loyola and maybe, again, maybe RC. That QB Garcia has no arm, and no leadership presence. Amat might be stacked in the skill positions with Vaughns and Sidney and Camargo, but you need a general to direct the game, and Amat does not have a leader this season. SM is probably the worst team in the Trinity league this year, with even JSerra being good, and Amat couldn’t beat them.
Next week Amat gets it head handed to them by Aledo. Amat will lose by 28 or more points in Texas. And when they come back home, we will continue the slaughter. First they come home to play RC, and again, I don’t think Amat will win that game. Then they come into our home, and they will face a high powered offense. Did you see what we did to Hart? We dropped 63 on Hart, who is one of the better teams in the southland. Our defense is shut down this season, and Amat has no QB.
Hopefully when Amat is 0-4 going into league, Homer Aram, and Homer Fred don’t still call Amat the best team in the valley. I know we are not technically in the valley, but these two clowns always rate us with the valley teams. So get it right and respect the Huskies, who are the true #1 in the valley.

    • Valley Athletics

First of all , this is a new year and you don’t know where Santa margarita will finish . Finishing even in 4th is not bad in the trinity when 3 teams are ranked nationally . Your offense is impressive . But it’s a first game against a young team who lost many starters . Last year Santiago dropped more than 50 on them .I wouldn’t call 48 points and allowing White to throw for 500 yds and 100 yds rushing lockdown .

      • observantcat

VA, after watching both RC and Amat, I’ll give the nod to Amat, RC’s QB is way to slow and over weight to give an all out effort against a team that thrives on a fast D. The hand offs were slow and the execution of most plays were slow. The Receiver for RC is the only shining spot on the team, the running backs are average at best. Not knocking RC but this year is not your year against Amat, now moving along with CH vs. Amat, this may be the year that Chino Hills has the break through that they need to prove themselves against a battle tested Amat team. Amats DB’s will be on their heels all night long against this team and I noticed some major adjustments that need to take place in the secondary or it will be a long night for the Lancers. If Amat’s D stands up and neutralizes the Chino Hills offense with Int’s then we will have a ball game. Right now this game is a no call until they meet. By the way Loyola is pretty solid this year and have added a bunch of transfers so they will be the mystery team in your league and div.

        • Valley Athletics

Havnt heard of any transfers to Loyola . I had heard they didn’t take in transfers . I know notre dame got a big time transfer from Tennessee who scored 6 tds against Mira costa . Alemanys RB Langi and receiver Jordan chin is at chaminade now . Still a long season .Amat has a lot of work , but this schedule will prepare them for league . No gimme games .

    • jcaz

Wow, big talk from a guy who’s team has yet to beat Amat. BTW, close only counts in…well, you get the picture

    • Jake snake

Who is this CH Husky……Really dude? I also saw the Amat game on prepzone. First off, it was an exciting game. I saw a young, talented team start slow, buckle down and come back, but unfortunately come up short. The QB Garcia showed his inexperience, but he proved to be a competitor and brought his team back. I know they have a brutal schedule, but I can see this team growing and winning more games than they lose. As for your CH Huskies, I say, beat Amat before you open your trap.

    • AMAT 73

      chh,
Sounds like you’re already worried about a game 3 weeks away . Keep coming on here trying to convince yourself of that win you think see in a few weeks . When was the last time your Huskies pulled that feat off ????

  • RC Dad

    To CH Huskies:
Before you call yourself the #1 anything, first come play us and Upland in the Inland. To be #1 in the valley is a joke, because only Amat is even worth mentioning out of all the teams in the valley. We play Amat at Amat in 2 weeks, and that will be a great game, but we will win it. We have great athletes this year and we will be playing Upland for league championship. CH will only battle for 3rd place, and will get spanked by us and the Scots.
Can’t wait to go to Keifer in 2 weeks. That game will be a tough one. I’ve never actually been to Keifer, but I hear it is a tough place to play. But that is what HS football is all about. Good luck in Texas Amat, and see you in 2 weeks.

  • Jefe

Shows how little Fred & Aram know about the OC & Pac-5 in general when they refer to Tesoro as if they’re some powerhouse.
