UPDATED: Highly touted defensive tackle Aaron Maldonado no longer attending Bishop Amat

UPDATE: Maldonado has enrolled at Whittier HS. The question is whether he’ll still be there after the school year. And of course, the next question is where will he play. It could be back at Amat or elsewhere.

Aaron Maldonado, the 6-3, 290-pound defensive tackle who had some big moments for Bishop Amat last fall as a sophomore is no longer attending the school.

There’s no word on why Maldonado is no longer on Amat or where he is currently attending. But one thing is for sure and that’s Maldonado was arguably the Lancers’ top returner for next season.

    Big loss ..

Not as big as the loss to SJB.

Wrong, Maldonado leaving effects the upcoming season. The SJB last year means nada, unless you’re stuck in the past.

I find Amat football much more interesting when they are not being touted as one of the best in the country or having 5 five star recruits and 10 transfers. I like to see what the coaching staff can do with the players they have, how they coach them up and then the product they put on the field. While maybe not world beaters I’m looking forward to seeing what the Lancers come up with. Losing one kid should not make a difference.

      reality,
I totally agree with you on that point . Although it is nice to have some (1-2) highly touted players or the can’t miss D-1 prospects , I for one like to see the home raised , coached up talent and there have been many of that type on our teams . Although Maldonado was that type , if he sees a better fit somewhere else , good luck to him and we all wish him well . Next season will be very interesting and our schedule is just as tough as any we’ve played recently . Can’t wait to get those Monarchs on our home field to start things off . GO AMAT !!!

    SL ,
Could be a number of reasons why he left AMAT. Doesn’t have to be that AMAT ruined a good thing , too many variables unless you know the whole story , which of course if you do you certainly will not divulge here . Someone will step up and fill his slot .

      Amat73,
I guess you are right they will fill in the rest of the 21 players on the roster and will just fine. Not!!!! Reality check Amat has no one that we seen out on the squad. Plus from what im hearing is that Amat will be losing a couple of more players. But hey you have it all figured out here.

      • AMAT73

        SL,
Players come and go all the time , some who are on the radar and some who are not . The only thing I have figured out is that no matter what , AMAT will field a very capable team , as in past seasons . Every year players who are not ” can’t miss D-1 prospects” seem to pop up and play lights out ball at AMAT As this thread started with reality’s post , let’s just wait and see what develops , and even though you aren’t to thrilled with Hags and staff , I am sure they will work hard and coach ‘ em up as always and we will have another successful season , GO AMAT !!!!

  • Angelus Coach

Come on Aram…It’s been almost a week since you posted this story. Are you a reporter, or aren’t you? How about a follow up? Where is Aaron?

  • Angelus Coach

Okay, I found him…He’s at Whittier.

Is it not possible that mom and dad had to cut expenses and could no longer pay for a private education?

  • SGV411

Unfortunately for the kid, he was caught doing something he was not supposed to be doing on campus and was kicked out of the school. BA did nothing wrong in this case. Plus I hear there were more kids as well, whether or not they were football players, I do not know that part.

I wonder if he will be eligible to play next season . Baseball player Brandon Godoy left Amat for Walnut and got denied eligibility . On cif page it says he got denied due to discipline at prior school till 1-27-17 .maybe Maldanado was involved in same incident as Godoy .
