Question of the day (or more): Who will give Mater Dei a better game this fall, Bishop Amat or La Mirada …

WHO WILL GIVE MATER DEI A BETTER GAME THIS FALL, BISHOP AMAT OR LA MIRADA?

… of course the next question that comes to mind is why don’t Amat and La Mirada just play? Anyway …

Week 0: Mater Dei at Bishop Amat — Last year’s game was very close. The Lancers had some key guys miss and made some mistakes, but were still in it. This year, Mater Dei is supposed to be Bosco or Centennial-esque. Meanwhile, Amat will be breaking in ALL NEW skill players in the first game of the season. At least the game is at Kiefer, which has been known to rattle visitors.

Week 2: La Mirada at Mater Dei
— The two teams met last year and it was 42-7 in favor of the Monarchs. Mater Dei is supposed to be even better this year. But then again, LM didn’t find its swag until much later in the season and has a veteran QB now with several D-1 prospects all over the field, too. By this point of the nonleague season, both teams should be humming. This is a road game for LM, though. And keep in mind the Mats will be entering this game off of games against O-Lu and SJB. This is murderer’s row as far as schedules go.

    LOL
Aram, I bet you thought you were going to get a lot hits on this “Amat baiting” story, didn’t you? You truly are the laziest reporter since they busted that NY Times writer for sitting on his fat a** at home and stealing other people’s stories.

While you might very well have a point here Doc, the argument Aram makes is nevertheless a valid one.
A couple of years ago the Lancers laid an egg with respect to league play. Last year, they did pretty well, but obviously were in no way comparable to the likes of SJB or Centenial.
This year, looks like it’s gonna be a very long season indeed.
Actually, they’ll probably win more games than they lose, but to be honest with you, I just wish that they would stop scheduling St Paul. That rivalry is for the history books. They should step up and schedule teams like Poly, or at least someone who can give them a game. Heck, why not play a local or two such as Azusa or or West Covina again ? Those schools would create more interest and save on travel. Heck, why not scrimmage with Basset before the season starts ? The kids could literally walk there. That would be so cool. The whole school all going together after a big rally.

        jcaz,
Do you follow AMAT baseball or softball ??? That rivalry is alive and well there so why not try and bring it back in football . Sometimes in these rival games you throw out the obvious and play your hardest as that team you think has no chance comes up and whups you . It has happened in the past. I’m sure you can recall a few loses by AMAT in that manner , I know I do !!! GO AMAT !!!!

73, I love your passion. You always show your blue and gold. However, you need to recognize that this is 2016, not 1966.
Sure, rivalries are great, they’re fun and to a certain extent they have meaning.
Unfortunately in this instance, that is not the case in afraid.
Perhaps in badeball, soft ball, and in tidelly Winks, where St Paul can actually compete. But, not in football.
The fact that this coaching staff has scheduled trinity league teams in an ongoing based prices my point, well, to a certain extent anyways.
          If you remember, there wa

            jcaz,
Well not too sure about 66 but as far as I do know the rivalry went way beyond 66 and as I wrote is alive and well in both base and softball . No need to beat our heads against D-1 teams every week of preseason . We got J Serra , MD , Servite and scrimmaging Rancho Cuc . Not a bad way to test your mettle and prepare for the season and FYI we did scrimmage the slime last season . Hey you got to have some relief and what better way to by bringing back an old rival . By the way I agree with WC if they want to play again but Bassett and Azusa , no offense to them but really ????

One of the problems with this format is that If you write something, and forget to sign in first, then all you write is lost.
            This the redundant posts.
Anyways, one of the points I mentioned, that was lost, was that yes, St Paul can indeed compete with Amat in baseball, and even in Tidelly Winks5, but not in football im afraid.
Incidentally, yes, your right of course, playing some of the local teams would not necessarilly be a step up game so to speak, but if your going to slaughter St Paul before halftime, then why drive all that way just to let the second string play a few downs. Why not play some of the better local relent instead.
Oh, the reason i mentioned Nasser was because Amat always has a preseason scrimmage. Why not have some fun, and well over There instead of driving a bus. As I mentioned earlier, just have a huge school rally, then everybody walks over There to watch a scrimmage. It would be unique, and kinda cool at the same time. Just a thiught 73. Just a thought….

            jcaz,
As I can see you need a few scrimmages and preseason blogging posts . Point taken but it’s always great to see the slime vs AMAT no matter the outcome . Don’t fool yourself and sleep on the slime . Anything can happen in these games .

          • jcaz

73, watching Amat play the slime, gets me a lot of sleep im afraid.

If you recall, there was a time when all the “haters” were constantly bashing the program because of some ill concieved belief that this program wasn’t capable of compeating with the priverbial”big boys.” to this coaching staff’s credit, by stepping u, and not just playing but beating those teams, we no longer have people like Aram calling for relief.
But here’s the problem. That same coaching staff constantly schedules St Paul, when they could be playing either a more capable team, or a school that is far more deserving to be in our schedule.

    Look up Bettridge’s Headline Rule.

    • tanksolot

But it doesn’t work in this case though. Now if the headline had read “Will LM give MD a better game than BA?” then “no” would work.

      • Don

I attributed that to a punctuation error in the OP.

At any rate, it’s god to use anything from those old Journalism classes at CSLA. 😉
