Tribskin Pick’em, your predictions and ours

Aram and I will go head-to-head in Tribskin Pick’em throughout the season with the loser buying lunch in December.
Last week: Robledo (15-3); Tolegian (16-2)
Season standings: Robledo (144-45); Tolegian (143-44)

Last week: Aram’s hot streak continues and now he trails by just a game after picking up another victory this week. He’s nickel an dimed his way close to the lead, going 16-2 to my 15-3 this past week. He took Amat over Loyola and I took Chino Hills over Damien, which was a wash. We both lost taking South Hills over Ayala, but Aram picked up a game with Nogales’ 8-7 win Northview.
This week: Here we go again? What do you do with Amat, who in all likelihood will not have QB Rio Ruiz for the league finale at Notre Dame, a game in all likelihood they will need to make the playoffs. I still think a steady dose of Moore, Shay on offense, and an improved defense over the past couple weeks will get it done. And don’t sleep on the soph, Koa Haynes, if he takes over at QB. Having a full week to prepare is different than being thrown in during the middle of a game. He will be improved. Damien at Charter Oak? The Spartans blew their chance and the momentum that comes with it last week. They haven’t faced an offense like this, and with Charter Oak at home, kind of hard to pick against them. Bonita was very impressive against Walnut, throwing 50 on the board. The Hacienda is crowded in the chase for the second through fourth playoff spots, and at this point, I like the experienced coaching staff of Bonita to get it done at home against Diamond Bar. Two games that look good on paper but won’t be are El Monte and South El Monte and La Puente at Duarte .. El Monte and La Puente will take care of business, setting up league title games next week against Arroyo and Azusa respectively.

Damien will upset Charter Choke in a big way! Co is very overrated. CO can be pushed around up front.

  • bigdaddy

I can’t wait to see Sparty try to stop the offensive weapons of Charter Oak. For a school of 1,900 in a division they have no business being in, much is expected of CO. This will not even be a good game. The championship will be played at Chino Hills next Thursday.

  • AyalaBulldogFan

Since you’re mentioning Sophomores… what about the Soph QB at Ayala… put up over 285 Passing and 4TD’s on South Hills. Not his first time making a defense sweat either… Just ask St. Paul. They were one Ayala posession away from defeat.

  • VVL

The Wilson Pomona game is on Friday, Max-Prep is incorrect.

  • JMO

    Ground attack,

You sound like the guy last week saying that wolfpack just had to run the ball on the weak DL and keep the O off the field. Claremont TOTAL offense 160 yds and most of those yards were on two plays, you sound just like another hater. Boo Hoo.

  • John

I’m going with ND over Amat on this one. Without Ruiz in the QB and FS position, Amat will have too much to overcome. ND is also looking to get some revenge for that drubbing Amat gave them last year. I’d love to be proven wrong though.

  • Jefe

I don’t see how Amat wins this game without the Rio running the show.

  • CO Fan

I am not a hater, I need to say that. I have many friends at Amat, and I am rooting for them to win on Friday. But, they gave a beating to the Knights of Notre Dame last year, which was a huge embarrasment to them. They will definately have that in mind, and probably have that posted somewhere in the locker room.

I just don’t see Amat pulling this off without Rio. That kid is the real deal who makes the team a real contender. The back up is young (Sophomore), and inexperienced. I heard that he looked like a deer in head lights after Rio went down. Maybe he will be ready next year, but asking him to perform this week might be too much to ask.

Good luck Amat, but things don’t look good.

    Let’s Go Chargers !!!

  • Recnal Pops

What if Amat came out in a wildcat offense? A total break from anything that ND is preparing for??? Rotation of Moore, Shay, Blue and Haynes? Sprint outs and the like? Does that give them a chance? Snap! Back to reality…Haynes will have to get er done under center and the rest of the Lancer team will be playing their a$$e$ off AS A TEAM! I like our chances. We can’t get caught up in all the negativity. Just play the game Lancers! The rest will take care of itself.

  • Chino Hills Husky

Aram: I like that!! Your pick for the SHills game was “Chavez” thats what you call being a good sport. haha

  • Amat Bully

    Ground attack

your post sounds as if your not to sure. “CO can be pushed around up front”

well claremont thought that way and we know what happen then. But anything “can” happen on any friday night. It also “can” be a good game.

  • AMAT 73

What AMAT needs to do more than ever is get the ground game going with Moore . He is capable of carrying the team to a victory. Maybe throw in Blue as fullback and give him some carries. Not to tough for Haynes to hand off the ball to either back and a few flair outs to Shay which Loyola defended quite well .He is pretty good on short passes . We need to keep ND off the field and what better way then eating up the clock on the ground. The O line must have a mistake free game and really fire off the LOS and win the battle of the trenches. The D will be strong enough but the O must pick it up a couple of notches to overcome the loss of Rio.

  • Not Impressed

    AMAT Bully:
Ground game is dreaming. He’s hoping, but we all know whats gonna happen. Gano has a soft schedule this year, but last week begins paying the piper. He lost to AMAT, he lost to Chino Hills, and now comes the worst. Last week some of his boys were crying after loss to the Huskies. This week they are gonna be inconsolable! lol.

Damien offensive and defensive fronts are not too impressive. and the D-backfield, well you saw what happened with CH. That should be a message to all coaches playing Damien. Tiny
D-backfield the way Gano wanted it. ( he recruited those tiny boys by the way).

Also, Ground game?? huh?? There aint none at Damien. Tiny running backs. None of these boys are on the leader boards for SGV. Thats because they arent any good, but they are Gano’s nephews, so i guess they are Damien Varsity material.

I hope the Damien folks see they been hoodwinked, bamboozled, time to call it an end to the season, and prepare for next year. Hopefully Gano learns from his mistakes, but im not sure. he made the same ones last year.

I think Amat surprises ND with the Wildcat. I am sure if Moore is as good as everyone proclaims, he can handle the task of leading the team to the W. Mix in a couple wildcat reverse flea flicker passes like Stanford did to USC and BA could easily still make the playoffs!

  • Heal yourself

Rio is going to be in Cruise control, if he plays….Baseball is right around the corner, The Ruiz Camp can pretend that they a concerned with Bishop making a run in the pac 5…But nah…a torn knee, and those MLB scouts will disperse as fast as they came…is a Bishop First round loss more important than millions and 1 round pick…..Nah….Rio you did your best, but even you can’t save a sunken ship.

  • eastsider

the Serra league is not the hacienda league, you cannot have a good running game if your passing game is not there.defenses are alot bigger and faster and will stack the box. Amat will have to mix it up well.Haynes could have a better game,Loyola had 2 division 1 DBs last week.notre Dame is not as good.

  • 12th man

It was a good run~ Rio’s football career is done!!..No way you risk your future…A bruised knee could easily just have been a torn ACL which would pretty much end your career in any sport…The season was done when they faced Servite the Lancers lost more that night then just the game…They lost there confidence & the defense got exposed for the 1st time..Shay got hurt as well as Alcantara & Amat never fully recovered…Even if Rio is healthy I just didn’t see them making any noise in the playoffs…They just dont have the size & athletic ability to compete for a Pac5 championship…Hope to see them rebuild next year & hopefully get some big guys up front.. One thing i know for sure is that Amat never lacks “Heart” in every game they play, They give 100 percent until the final whistle..Good luck the rest of the way & i hope too see Rio in the MLB in about 2 years…

  • coltfan97

There has been some changes in the Mid Valley CIF Polls!!!!

  • 12th man

Can Amat defense come up with a win?? Or are they overrated?? Heres the numbers you do the math~

    Amat Defense 2011-2012
    tackles per game-30.3

    Amat Defense 2010-2012
    tackles per game-39.3

Dont know why everyone keeps saying Amat’s defense is there strength…

  • coltfan97

I know everyone is picking Pomona to defeat Wilson, and they should Pomona has just too much talent for Wilson. Their is more too this game, emotions will be high just because of the circumstances involved!!!!

  • Beyond the numbers

    12th Man,

You ever realize numbers don’t tell everything? If USC held Mt. SAC to 14 points in a game and held Stanford to 18 points a year later, does that mean the previous team’s defense is better? This year’s stats are heavily influenced by that Servite game. Also, the talent this year’s squad faced is better than the talent previous years had to play. Look at nearly every team Amat had on their schedule and you’ll see a couple of offensive players who are getting offers from D1 colleges. Heck, Amat played a team with a Boise State and Stanford committ last week and still held them to 14 points.

  • Bonita Fan

Love it Arm, Podley. He is a good coach and learned a few things and made an adjustment. This game is a big one as far as Hacienda playoff picture is concerned. Both are going to try to run the ball and who ever can stop it will win this one. Bonita can put alot of people in the box that’s for sure and with Horine back at safety they are a much better protecting the deep ball when it does get thrown Friday.
    Bonita wins in close one.

    >>>>Ground attack said:

Pain!<<<< That sounds very familiar. Was it you or someone else that posted darn near the same thing last week about Claremont pushing the weak CO line around? Seems to me that last weeks game ended 49-12 in favor of the weak team.

  • A non y mouse

12th man, you probably don’t know why? because you don’t even know the difference between “there” and “their”. This years defensive squad is doing just fine and has played some very good offenses….very well. What’s your Beef anyway? You think otherwise? Tell us why? Remember this years squad is smaller on the d-line than last years team and has no returning starting linebackers. In spite of this, they are still playing some very good teams very, very tough. So what up?

  • 12th man

How many games has the defense really won this year??? One maybe two??…The defense came up big against Crespi & Damien they gave Loyola a good game..They haven’t been able to stop the run efectively “Against Good Teams”…Even though Loyola only scored 14 points they obtained the ball for 70 percent of the game..go to the stats & you will see that Loyola was averaging atleast 4-5 yards per play & eating up the clock…They pretty much wanted to keep Amat’s offense off the field…I agree that stats dont tell the whole story of a game & you cant really compare different seasons because they play different teams..but one thing i do know is that its going to be tough to win any games in the Serra or the playoffs just averaging 1.1 sacks per game & the only reason the number got to (1.1 sacks pg) is because of non-league games..Haynes will be the key for Amat’s victory he will have to be affective in throwing situations & be smart with the ball..Notre Dame has done homework & they know Rio wont play so look for them to stack the box to take away the run & force Haynes to throw..They will also be blitzing to force the unexperienced sophmore to make quick decisions..I will be the 1st to admit that my spelling isnt the best but if thats what you want to focus on your on the wrong blog..You should go to a writers blog & leave sports alone!!

  • Damien Will Not Beat CO

Coach Gano and staff will find a way to screw things up like last week. Charter Oak will throw for 350 yards on Damien. Charter Oak has 6’3″ receivers on 5’5″ DB’s….we saw what happened last week when Chino Hills scored 2 TD’s on them and CO is a much better passing team than CH. I predict CO wins 42-14 and then Damien struggles with Ayala to eek into the playoffs….so much for Gano’s “dream team of tiny tots”

  • IEFootball1

Look here Damien fans, IT is great to support your team, but lets get real with yourselves. Your 6 wins come against teams with a total record of 19-27 none of them above a 500 record..Your two losses are against winnng teams that are middle of the pack.

CO is stacked, They have a beast at QB in Santiago and tons of weapons around him to score on any defense. Their dee will make the necessary stops when needed. I think Charter Oak will win Sierra league and be heard loud in the playoffs.

    Blowout City Friday Night

    Charter Oak 49 Damien 21..
