Column: Claremont film festival keeps it short and snappy

Friday’s column starts with news about the 5 Second Film Festival, now in its sixth year in Claremont. It takes place May 8. After that, I have items about three cultural events all taking place Saturday (Free Comic Book Day, California Bookstore Day and National Train Day/Union Station 75th anniversary), and an item about an inadvertently hilarious editorial in a Rancho Cucamonga newspaper.

So today I went to two events I learned about from you: Free Comic Book Day and the new craft fair at the Old School House. The latter was not very impressive – not a lot of vendors and not many attendees. But I guess you have to start somewhere – maybe it will become huge in a few years!

After that I went to A Shop Called Quest, which was packed with people! As I walked in the door a young man at a table offered me the free books, and ended up putting four of them in a bag for me. They gave me Power Rangers, Spongebob, Teen Titans and Megaman. They’re pretty different from the comics I remember as a kid, but they look like fun!

Of course, I had to stop at I Like Pie, since I was right there! I had a little strawberry rhubarb pie, and brought home a Dutch apple which I’ll try to resist until tomorrow at least. Overall, not a bad afternoon!

Glad to have been of service. You were paying keen attention if you noted the day of the craft fair, which was in my column a month or two ago. Hope you, or a young relative, like the comics!
