McDonald’s introduces the FRORK, an ‘unnecessarily superfluous quasi-utensil’

Earlier this year, there was the STRAW, McDonald’s re-engineered straw designed to deliver equal parts of its Chocolate Shamrock shake to a consumers’ tastebuds.

Now McDonald’s has developed the FRORK, described in an infauxmercial as an “unnecessarily superfluous quasi-utensil.”

Basically, it’s a silicon handle with an pocket at one end for inserting three or four french fry “tines.”

So, FRORK is a portmanteau of “fry” and “fork.” Get it?

Of course, it’s all just a gimmick to promote the national rollout of its Signature Crafted Recipes sandwiches, which has undergone a name change and several iterations here in Southern California before getting narrowed down to just three:

  • Pico Guacamole: Made with white cheddar cheese, guacamole made with 100% Hass avocados, Pico de Gallo, crisp leaf lettuce and buttermilk ranch sauce. Served with a fresh lime wedge.
  • Maple Bacon Dijon: Topped with grilled onions, thick-cut Applewood smoked bacon with sweet maple seasoning, white cheddar, crisp leaf lettuce and a creamy Dijon sauce.
  • Sweet BBQ Bacon: Contains grilled onions, thick-cut Applewood smoked bacon, creamy white cheddar, and BBQ sauce, topped with golden crispy onions.

The sandwiches come with either grilled or fried chicken, or a beef patty, on either an artisan roll, a potato roll or a sesame-seed bun.

To further promote the rollout, today (May 4) through Monday (May 8), with the purchase of a Signature Crafted Recipes sandwich, customers will receive a free medium fry and soft drink at participating McDonald’s.

If you’re interested in getting your own FRORK, you can call 1-844-McD-FRORK, where some callers will receive a FRORK or a coupon for a Signature Crafted sandwich.

The FRORKs will also be given away while supplies last at select restaurants on Friday (May 5), with the purchase of a Signature Crafted sandwich.
