San Gorgonio baseball coach Bill Eatinger named to Hall of Fame

San Gorgonio baseball coach Bill Eatinger talks about beating Jurupa Hills earlier this season.

Hall of Fame? Bill Eatinger never thought his name would be mentioned in the same sentence.
But the long-time San Gorgonio High baseball coach has been inducted into the California Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
“I’m shocked anybody knows San Gorgonio,” Eatinger said. “It seems they do.”
Eatinger, a head coach for 24 years including the last 19 at San Gorgonio, got some support from a veteran coach, former Redlands East Valley coach Steve Hernandez.
“Steve Hernandez nominated me and that was quite a nomination,” Eatinger said.
Eatinger was told what some of the factors were in his nomination.
“According to Steve, it was just coaching in a bankrupt city and being able to be successful with kids who don’t get drafted,” Eatinger said. “We still managed to raise funds, we’re able to travel and compete against some pretty good teams. And this year (when they went to the CIF-SS quarterfinals), we only had an 11-man team.”
