https://goo.gl/photos/bwnsUCjmgZKxhaKh8 They don’t want no big big blue!!

  • flatiron

The Monarchs started 3 sophomores on their offensive line and held the ball for 21:03 minutes of the second half. BA turned the ball over 5 times, had less than 200 yards in total offense, and was lucky to lose the game by only 3 points.

    • Valley Athletics

Obviously they are good with the depth mater Dei has . They are already saying that the 6’6″ 320 pound sophomore is going to be the best linemen ever at mater Dei .

      • AramT

They were huge along the offensive line. However, after watching the full replay of of the game, if you switched the game plans and Amat did what MD did and just pounded the ball, they would have been way better off.

It’s very clear Amat’s season is going straight through Sweet, because the QBs are too inconsistent to expect them to get the ball to Vaughns and Sidney safely and with regularity.

Also, after having seen that Amat defense. They are okay, but not great. If anyone thinks they’re gonna slow down Centennial or SJB, they’re dreaming.

        • Valley Athletics

Yeah I thought it would of been better keeping Garcia in and running more like they did both positions when sweet scored.some short passes to the tight ends and other receivers would of help open up the game for vaughns and Sidney .cant judge the defense by the first game . tackling gets better as the season progresses . With Maldanado they will add a must needed big guy in the middle .when Brayton gets back Kai Higgins can move back to Defensive end . I would of played him on defense on the second position of mater Dei in the second half . They needed some fresh feet . At that point would of been a good time .

        • From where I sit

Aram, You’d better head over to chalk talk at AMAT. It starts Tuesday at 7:00 2nd floor gym seminar room. Beware, don’t drink the cool aide, though.

        • Bulldog Boy

The ARAM T AMAT SHOW……..featuring excuses 101………lets talk about hype and the most talented team we have EVER seen!

          • AramT

            Bulldog Boy,

I think you’re talking to the wrong person. I picked Mater Dei BEFORE the game because Amat’s terrible offseason got even worse in the last couple weeks leading up to the game. If you want to call losing your best o-line guy and best d-line guy leading up to the game an excuse then I say go for it. Those are huge factors.

And let me tell you something else — football seasons are evolving things. What you think you know in August isn’t necessarily the same thing in November. That’s why rankings and polls change during the course of a year. These are fluid situations. Amat may be a better team in two months or it may be a worse team in two months. Nobody knows. You just go with what you know AT THE TIME.

If Amat doesn’t win league and get back to the semis, this season will be a disappointment. But I base those projections on Amat having its top o-linemen and top d-linemen. If they don’t have those guys, then it’s fair to adjust.

          • http://bishopamat.org/ Joe Amat

            Aram,

Excuses? Go over there and read Freddie’s blog again. It may take you awhile because there are far more comments there, but I have yet to write one sentence on Fridays game. Not one word. But as in most readers here, myth and perception, speculation, rumors, old wives tales and urban legends are far more important.

You of all people, unless your memory escapes you, should know I’ll slam Amat when necessary. Your blog was essentially built on that in the days of “This blog is my blog, this blog is your blog” back when you were posting things about The value of MySpace. (Readers: true story. Look it up) Back then I was the devil-incarnate when it came to Amat. (Remember I refused to use the capital “A” and Hagerty had to earn that back) Maybe you parlayed the popularity of the blog into your short gig at Fox. Maybe not – but it looked that way and I respect you for coming back to something you love. Things change. If they change back at Amat…I’ll be the first to let you know.

There may be some opinions to follow, but now is not the time. We’ll see.

          • From where I sit

Joe Amat, Briefly explain to me what Hagerties did that enabled you to go back to the capital A. I am looking for a reason to add the “y” back. I really want the boys to win but am so tired of what I hear goes on “in the inner circle” between the coach and his players, and what he tolerates amongst the players. I am hoping for the best this year but am anticipating a train wreck in the near future.

          • http://bishopamat.org/ Joe Amat

You want to talk train wreck, that’s what 05-07 was. Hags brought back a little tradition and little more sense of “program” with much credit also to go to the initial staff assembled. The depth of former head coaches and coordinators was tremendous, not to mention experience of the other guys. A head coach is only as good as his coordinators and position coaches.

The loss of several of those guys have hurt in many ways, some of what you allude to. There were more eyes and strong, confident, and empowered personalities that ensured guys were toeing the line. Things are a little looser in many ways, not necessarily good, but not different from many programs these days. Even some top ones.

          • From where I sit

            Joe Amat,
I agree about the importance of assistant coaches. However, I don’t like how Hagerties handles the prima donnas on his teams nor his play calling. The head coach sets the tone for the team. Note to coach – the rest of the team is watching, ALL OF THE TIME!
I know his offensive coordinator may call the plays, but the head coach is listening on his head set! Don’t start the 1st game of the year with 3 pass plays! Don’t end the game on any, any, I overs, when all you need is a first down. In crucial parts of the game HE IS responsible for the play calling.

          • http://bishopamat.org/ Joe Amat

We agree on a lotta things. While the buck does stop with the Head Coach, i believe Hags has given some latitude to his coordinators – at least early in the season. Especially with first year coordinators the last thing you might want to do is pull the plug on their play calling. Although that may have been just what was needed for that game on Friday. Over the long haul, maybe trial and error is what best gets everyone on the same page. We’ll see. I do think this was the path traveled a year ago, when by mid season the game plan was more towards Hags personality: Establish the run, a healthy dose of swing passes out of the backfield, slants, , hitches, and bubble screens to get rid of the ball quickly and open up the deep ball. Pretty simple – and we need to get back to that.

(And the team culture thing is complex – especially when you throw administration into the mix)

          • From where I sit

I would go away, if this was “just another year”. However, this is suppose to the THE YEAR. Briefly, looking back, the players from the 2013-14 team to this day resent the way Hagerties took the momentum of that season by inserting the super sophs against Culver City. All the plays went to them during the practice week and game day Sidney was put in at running back. Vaughns got his touches, too! Why? We all know why – to get the super sophs ready for the future. Soon thereafter, that team tanked. Everyone wanted to blame the QB but without chemistry (the sophs knew how good they were, too.) your doomed. Especially if your undermanned. We all know what happened last year. The future is HERE. Time to start coaching like it. For all the talk and bravado, this team is on thin ice.
EVERY coach dreams of having a team like this. I contend that, once again, Hagerties cute catch phrases to his team will actually backfire simply because his coaching style does not back them up. Finally, the administration is one thing, but the team culture thing is ALL ON THE HEAD COACH.

Sophomores are not really sophomores any more. They are 16 plus and older hold backs and birth certificate forgers.

  • Football 1

I’m glad Amat Lost last night. They talk a lot of crap around West Covina driving around town with their A’s on the back windshield that stand for A-holes. Thank’s mater dei.

    • JM

Yes Amat lost… But be a good sport and don’t hate because “Amat” sticker on the windshield. It’s the Amat community supporting the school. JM

    • AMAT 73

      fb1,
Well you’re reading the stickers right where you belong , behind an a-hole as always !!!!

      • WCDan

        Lol, almost spilled my water.

        • AMAT 73

          WC Dan the Man ,
Glad to see some true WC eyes on the blog again . Looking forward to a great year win or lose on the blog as it is always fun no matter what . I do see we have some new meat to chew on in here but they should learn fast that we old timers still have plenty of teeth to gnaw on fresh meat . Good Luck to your Bulldogs this season . Better to spill the water then the wine !!!!! Although you may get fined by the water police ! HAHAHAHA

          • WCDan

            Amat 73,
LOL, yeah with the drought it’s $500 if you spill water on the wrong day, sorry for the delay just saw your post right now. It’s good to see you too, Hope the boys in blue can pull things together and get past all this drama going on with Sweet/Hagerty/and players protesting. This ain’t the year you want that kind of stuff to happen, I want to see what kind of damage this BA team is fully capable of doing in the Pac 5 division. Good luck to your Boys.

  • Don

    1. Mater Dei 24 Bishop Amat 21 — High expectations will cause a lot of finger pointing for a 3 point loss to one of America’s elite teams. It’s a long road, Lancers. You’ll be fine

    2. St. John Bosco 76 La Mirada 8 – At least LM had some nice looking uni’s/ Other than that, a waste of a ticket.

    3. Bonita 49, Schurr 2 — Nice start, but Schurr ain’t nothing like the Palomares

    4. La Serna 14 Eastlake 13 – Overcame the drama and a quality opponent, impressive.

    5. La Habra 41 El Toro 7 – Want a message? Here’s a message

    6. Burbank 38 Monrovia 20 – Maybe the most shocking score of
    the night

    7. Charter Oak 42 Green Valley 21 — Lou continues his mastery of preseason scheduling

    8. Pioneer 28 Artesia 0 – Artesia is a good choice to open the new stadium

    9. San Marino 49 Arroyo 10 – Titans clearly favor easing into Central D play slowly

    10. Oak Hills 31 Pomona 13 – About now, the Devils are way happy to be in the Mid

    11. St. Paul 39 Agoura 27 – Only gets tougher from here, Rick

    12. Downey 13 San Pedro 2 – Nice start to a very tough non-league schedule

Was kinda expecting a little more from Northview, Los Altos, and South Hills because of the attention this summer; I guess we will
    see.

  • adrian

I really enjoy the show and your comments but 20 minutes out of a 53 minute broadcast spent on Amat and another 5 at the end? There are other teams in the area I’m just saying. I do not profess to know better than any of those coaches otherwise it would be me on the sideline but I do not think that it takes a genius to figure out that one of the Amat QB’s should have transferred could’ve been a starter at just about any other program. If not handled carefully this situation will implode badly. Last year when he was cleared from his injury tweeted immediately that he was cleared to play and started a firestorm as to who should start for the playoffs, that was a big story at the time going into their final games. Neither one will be happy sitting down riding pine

    • jcaz

Adrian, you must be relatively new to these blogs.
For better or worse, these blogs are always going to tick off a lot of people because of that. In fact, just last year, a few kids from south Hills (I think ??) did a parady on these guys and it just about said it all.
Anyways, don’t be mad or frustrated. It’s just that when Amat does good, then there’s lots of hits and lots of chest thumping. When they lose, you don’t hear to much form these guys.
Bottom line is to just enjoy the ride. It only comes once a year (or at least until baseball season), then it’s pretty much done, so don’t let it bother you, although I do have to admit that perhaps one of the biggest upsets of the night was totally skimmed over.
I mean, how incredible was it that Sierria Vista beat La Puente ?
      Wow !!!

      • From where I sit

jcaz, Thanks for giving Adrian the advice that you can’t follow. “Don’t get mad or frustrated”… What? You have got to be kidding me! Your a blog psychologist on Aram site but and angry Lancer on Fred’s site. Hey, it would be fun if you would quote Aram on how he feels about the QB situation.

        • jcaz

Dude, have just got a wild hair or am I missing something here ?
Look you are welcome to have a differerent opinion about any topic or subject that I do. In fact, your even welcome to come on this blog and disagree with me about everything and anything I say so long as your not trying to be a knucklehead. So far so good, but honestly dude, your pretty close,
With that being said, I’m at a loss as to where you get the idea that I’m angry, frustrated or even a psychologist.
Honestly dude, your to funny here but seriously, you got to do a way better job than this Frank.

          • From where I sit

            jcaz,
You gave such great advice to Adrian, when you said don’t get mad or frustrated. I hope we get this turned around soon! 9 games until playoffs!!

      • adrian

        Jcaz
Thanks for the advice man not really mad I just really look at everything and it seems like Aram just gets shoved Bishop down his throat all the time. I actually saw a Bishop scrimmage and they really seem overrated after watching that. They have too many obstacles in their way and sadly the are created by themselves. To succeed you must remain humble and true to who you are and what you are supposed to stand for–too late for these guys like public enemy said “don’t believe the hype” LoL

        • jcaz

And, that’s what makes this thing so funny.
If Amat loses on Frday night against Servite, a couple of things happen.
First, your going hear almost nothing coming out of the Amat crowd.
On the other hand, all the so called haters will be out in force giving them the business.
However, if Amat wins, then look out because your going to be reading so much Bull Schiz that it’ll littetdlly make you gag (even though your reading and not eating. Although you do happen to be eating, then perhaps you will gag).
Either way, it’s still lots of fun, so long as you don’t take it personal like a couple of guys did a few years ago.
These two were gonna meet up somewhere and duke it out.
          What morons they were

    • Jefe

It’s all-Amat, all the time. You better get used to it, son!

      • adrian

Son??? Damn and I thought you’d been dead since I was 11 boy have you got a boatload of crap to make up for!!!! Send me your address so I can send you my request that covers every December since 1983. Sadly though that will NOT include a CIF title for 2015. Your players and program bought the hype of the mags and polls. Big difference between polls and titles one is given in opinion the other is earned with W’s

        • http://bishopamat.org/ Joe Amat

          Adrian,

I think you’ve just been “son’d” without knowing it. Jefe is a long time St John Bosco guy with a recent title and as good a shot at another as anybody.

        • Jefe

Relax, I’m not an Amat fan. Just giving you a hard time.

          • adrian

Jajaja all good man just getting in on the spirit of things bro not mad

  • jcaz

You know, the thing that I find to be the most funniest is the fact that the folks over at Amat always say that they don’t pay attention to the blogs.
They’ve been saying it for years, but do you know what’s interesting ?
If they never read the blogs and have never saw Arams take on “Relief” then it begs the question here.
Why do a cut out of a guy you never pay attention to ?
Hum…..me thinks you protest to much !

    • AramT

Thats a great question. I never thought of that.

      • jcaz

That just means they are indeed paying attention. Don’t let them fool you Aram.
They’re hanging on every word you say 🙂

        • AramT

They should be. After all, when it comes to Amat, I am the voice of reason.

          • jcaz

            Agreed 🙂

          • AMAT 73

            jcaz ,
I’ve got some paper towels for that nose of your’s . You’ve got some brown smudges on it . HAHAHAHAHA !!!!!

          • jcaz

            Again, we agree.
            Wow, we’re on a roll 73 !

  • JM

I agree too much hype and a lost to MD. On the Brightside Amat can refocus and come out of this with a strong season but humbled.
    Go AMAT !

  • reality

Hey Stevie, don’t always let those guys bully you. If your gonna sit there have a take and DEFEND it!! If the big guy smirks at you shove a twinkie in his piehole and tell Fred Amat sucks and my gut tells me you feel that way. Like momma said “don’t just sit there do something” , a lot of us posters like what you have to say and have your back.

  • Conq ’76

Can someone confirm los altos is playing west Adams the week at home either Friday or Thursday? And why no pick on the game from aram and fred? Max preps says Friday but someone else seems to think Thursday. ..thanks…
