UCLA receiver Jordan Payton talked about setting the school’s new career receptions record against Utah with his 194th catch, as well as quarterback Josh Rosen’s development. Payton also became only the eighth Bruin receiver to record a 1,000-yard season, and the first since Nelson Rosario in 2011.

UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen completed 22 of 33 passes for 333 yards and two touchdowns at Oregon State on Saturday, continuing his run of interception-free football. The true freshman was particularly effective in the second quarter, going 13 of 15 for 213 yards.
The performance marked his fourth 300-yard game of the season, tying him for third on the UCLA single-season list. Cade McNown had six such games in 1998 as a senior, while Brett Hundley had five in 2014 as a redshirt junior.
“He has full control,” receiver Jordan Payton said of Rosen. “He’s seen a lot of pressures, a lot of different schemes. Now, he has the reins. He’s playing outstanding. … He’s seen it all so far. It’s an honor to play with a kid that learns that fast and can definitely take the control as a freshman.”
Payton is taking aim at school records too. He made five catches for 71 yards against the Beavers, giving him 173 career receptions. He is third all-time behind Kevin Jordan (179, 1992-95) and Craig Bragg (193, 2001-04).
UCLA WR Jordan Payton: ‘We’re still in this. We control it.’
UCLA’s injury list continues to grow, but the team still pulled out a 35-31 win over Colorado on Saturday that kept it on a clear path to winning the Pac-12 South.
If the Bruins win their last four games — at Oregon State, at home against Washington State, and then at Utah and USC — they’ll clinch the division without worrying about any tiebreakers.
“It’s crazy,” said receiver Jordan Payton. “Today, I was looking at the games and stuff like that. I was like, ‘Wow, we’re 6-2. We’re still in this. We control it.’ What a great situation to be in for us, and for me personally, senior year.”
