In recent days, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said pitcher Alex Wood was on track to be activated from the disabled list today. Wood said himself that would be the case just this afternoon.

Then, a few minutes later, when Roberts addressed reporters in the third-base dugout, he dropped a surprise by saying Wood will be activated tomorrow instead.

“We decided to wait another day,” Roberts said. “He’ll be activated tomorrow. We have to make, obviously, a roster move, and we haven’t decided which direction we’re going to go.”

Dodgers pitcher Scott Kazmir‘s rehab game with Triple-A Oklahoma City ended earlier than expected.

Kazmir faced seven batters and recorded just two outs in the first inning of the Oklahoma City Dodgers’ first-round playoff game against the Nasvhille Sounds. After walking one batter and hitting another to begin the game, Kazmir allowed a three-run home run to Nashville’s Renato Nunez.

After issuing another walk and hitting another batter, Kazmir left the field with Dodgers athletic trainer Greg Harrel.

Update (6:40 p.m.): Kazmir suffered a recurrence of the same right neck/ribcage issue that landed him on the disabled list and will return to Los Angeles for further evaluation.

The Dodgers’ starting rotation is starting to rotate on a normal-ish basis.

Ross Stripling

Ross Stripling and Brock Stewart are scheduled to start the next two games against the Arizona Diamondbacks. That will complete a streak of four straight rookie pitchers (Kenta Maeda today, Jose De Leon yesterday) who will have started a game with the Dodgers nursing a small lead in the National League West standings.

What’s more, the Dodgers are scheduled to use a different starting pitcher in all six games they will play this week.

However, things are about to get normal. (Normal-ish, at least.) After an off-day Thursday, the Dodgers travel to Miami to kick off a 10-game road trip. Here are the probable matchups for that series:

Friday: Clayton KershawJose Fernandez
Saturday: Rich HillTom Koehler
Sunday: Maeda – Jake Esch

Scott Kazmir will rejoin the Dodgers’ starting rotation in the second week of September.

DENVER >> Dodgers pitcher Scott Kazmir, who threw a simulated game Tuesday at Dodger Stadium, will be activated from the disabled list within a day or two of his eligibility date Sept. 7, manager Dave Roberts said Wednesday.

Kazmir is battling discomfort in his neck and shoulder that impeded his delivery.

“To get two weeks of a break, I think, has really benefitted him,” Roberts said.

The veteran left-hander is 10-6 with a 4.59 earned-run average in 25 starts this season.

DENVER >> Clayton Kershaw threw two innings in a simulated game at Dodger Stadium on Tuesday. He pitched two innings to a group of hitters from Single-A Rancho Cucamonga who arrived just for the occasion.

Dodger pitchers Scott Kazmir, Brandon McCarthy and Brett Anderson all threw simulated games Tuesday as well.

For Kershaw, “it was a great step in his progression,” Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said.

“He felt great after, which was obviously everything that we cared about,” Friedman said. “He said he wasn’t as sharp as he would want to be, but he’s always going to say that. The important thing is that he felt great. We’ll assess tomorrow what the next steps are.”

Kershaw is on the 60-day disabled list with a mild disc herniation in his lower back.
