Roundup: Katie Kuosman, Caroline Ward lead CMS tennis at ITA

CLAREMONT-MUDD-SCRIPPS >> Katie Kuosman and Caroline Ward of the Athenas won the doubles title at the ITA Division III West Regional Championships.
REDLANDS>> Catherine Allen and Natalie Etchegaray finished second in the semifinals of the ITA Fall West Regional doubles play for the Bulldogs. The two Bulldogs also earned a spot in the quarterfinals of singles play.
Golf
CAL STATE SAN BERNARDINO >> The Coyotes are in eighth place out of 15 teams in the Chico State Golf Tournament. Jake Meloche shot rounds of 72 and 73 to finish in a tie for 10th after two rounds at par-72 Butte Creek Country Club. The event will conclude today.

REDLANDS >> The Bulldogs’ Chase Lipscomb advance to the quarterfinals of the ITA Fall West Regional Championships, following three tournament matches against SCIAC opponents.

Uphold tops of week in SCIAC

Kayla Uphold

Senior pitcher Kayla Uphold of the No. 7 University of Redlands softball team garnered Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Female Athlete of the Week honors.

Uphold, a native of Fontana, stepped up in a big way for the Bulldogs, helping Redlands to a 4-0 week with doubleheader sweeps of Cal Lutheran and No. 21 Chapman to remain in first place.

She threw 23 innings without giving up a run en route to three shut-out victories.  The final game of the week was a 3-0 triumph in 10 innings, during which she went the distance.

Uphold held opponents to a .185 average, struck out nine, and walked only two.  Uphold also helped herself from the plate, ranking second on the team for the pair of twin bills with a .417 average on a 5-for-12 effort.

She leads the SCIAC with an ERA of 1.08 while tying for the most number of wins at 20.

The lowdown: The senior team captain is the Bulldogs top breastroker and individual medley swimmer. Won the 400 IM (4:25.36) and the 100 breaststroke (1:03.95) in the teams most recent meet against Cal Lutheran and won the 200 breast (2:20.39) and the 200 IM (2:01.39) in the previous meet against Occidental. Has been part of SCIAC championship teams all three years this far. Placed second in the 200 breast and third in the 100 breast at last years SCIAC championship and also contributed on three relays. Carries a 3.64 GPA and is a presidental scholarship recipient and member of the deans list.

the 100 breaststroke.
