The Dodgers have traded minor league pitchers Frankie Montas, Jharel Cotton and Grant Holmes to the Oakland A’s for pitcher Rich Hill and outfielder Josh Reddick.

The five-player swap is the Dodgers’ largest — and so far only — move on the day of baseball’s non-waiver trade deadline. Trades must be completed by 1 p.m. Pacific Time.

Chris Hatcher might not pitch again this season because of a Grade 3 strain of his left oblique muscle.

“It seems unlikely for his return,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said.

PITTSBURGH — Spot starter Nick Tepesch and the Dodgers’ strained bullpen could not sustain a six-game winning streak despite 13 hits in an 8-6 loss to the Pirates. The box score is here.

Frankie Montas out 4-8 weeks with (another) injured rib.

PITTSBURGH — Dodgers pitcher Frankie Montas, who missed the first six weeks of the regular season while recovering from off-season rib surgery, has an injury to his second rib and won’t pitch for four to eight weeks. The news was first reported by Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com.

Montas, 23, last pitched at Triple-A on June 15. He has a 2.38 earned-run average in four games (three starts) for the Oklahoma City Dodgers in 11 ⅓ innings.

Dodgers might have a new role for Julio Urias after his next two starts.


Julio Urias has only thrown 58 combined innings this year between the majors and Triple-A, but the Dodgers are already making plans to curtail his usage beyond his next two starts.

Urias is scheduled to start tomorrow against the Milwaukee Brewers and next Wednesday against the Washington Nationals. And then?

“We’ll go from there,” manager Dave Roberts said.
