Quincy Brewer earns 200th win as SBVC coach

Quincy Brewer concluded 2015 with victory No. 200 as the head coach of the San Bernardino Valley men’s basketball program, following the 71-66 win over LA Harbor in Quincy Brewerthe Imperial Valley Tournament Championship Game on Dec. 30.

Brewer has been the coach of the program for seven and a half years.

The team has won its last eight games and sit at 19-2 overall as of Jan. 2, 2016.

The Wolverines are scheduled to begin Foothill Conference play on Jan. 9 at home against Victor Valley College.

Notebook: Local soccer teams advance in postseason tournament

Cal Poly Pomona

Aaron Macedo scored the game-winning goal off a header for the Broncos in overtime of the NCAA Division II Elite Eight game against the No. 8 nationally ranked Colorado School of Mines, 3-2 in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Macedo, scoring just his second goal of the season, was enough to hand the team its first loss of the season while extending the Broncos’ winning streak to seven-games.

The Orediggers scored the opening goal before the Broncos answered back by scoring one of its two goals in each half.

The Broncos travel to Pensacola, Florida to play No. 5 nationally ranked Rockhurst in the NCAA Division II Final Four.

Chaffey Women’s Soccer

Ana Gonzalez scored the unassisted goal for the Panthers in the first half while assisting Lorenn Sandoval with the game-winning overtime goal against Santa Monica College, 2-1, to advance to the second round of the CCCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament. Goalkeeper Destiny Collins had five saves for the Panthers. Chaffey will play at Santiago Canyon at 2 p.m. today.

Chaffey Men’s Soccer

The No. 1 seeded Panthers are coming off a first round bye in the CCCAA Men’s Soccer Tournament entering the second round match against Mt. San Antonio. The Panthers and Mounties will play at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

SBVC Women’s Soccer

Baylee Williams set the pace early for the No. 5 seeded Wolverines (15-2-3) with a goal 1 minute and 26 seconds into the first half off an assist from Julissa Magana. Leandra Garlinger scored the other goal in the first half in what sealed the victory against Santa Barbara College. SBVC will travel to play No. 4 Cerritos College in the second round at 2 p.m. today.

Volleyball
Cal State San Bernardino (26-5) volleyball program will make its 16th appearance in the NCAA Tournament but it will be the first time in their history that they will play in Alaska. The Coyotes received the No. 4 seed and will play No. 5 Central Washington on Dec. 3.

Football: La Verne remains undefeated in SCIAC play

LA VERNE 49, CHAPMAN 42 >> Running back Travis Sparks Jackson rushed for 197 yards and three touchdowns in the Leopards’ victory over the Panthers. The Leopards (6-1, 5-0) had had two other player score two rushing touchdowns apiece in the win to remain undefeated in SCIAC play. La Verne will play at 1 p.m. Saturday against Pomona-Pitzer.
OCCIDENTAL 23, POMONA-PITZER 14 >> The Sagehens’ quarterback Taylor Mensik completed 12 of its 20 passes for 125 yards and a touchdown in the SCIAC loss to the Tigers. Mensik also rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown for the Sagehens (2-5, 1-4). Pomona-Pitzer will play at 1 p.m. Saturdayagainst La Verne.
REDLANDS 59, WHITTIER 7 >> Quarterback Kevin Russell completed 16 of his 27 passes for 220 yards and four touchdowns against the Poets defense. Russell also led the Bulldogs (3-4, 3-2) in rushing with 86 yards and a touchdown. Adam Goss led the Bulldogs’ defense with 12 total tackles. Redlands will play at 7 p.m. Saturday against Chapman.
SAN BERNARDINO VALLEY 54, COMPTON 6 >> The Wolverines’ Deion Walker rushed for 196 yards and four touchdowns against the Tartars. Daniel Epperson completed 13 of his 17 pass attempts for 256 yards and three touchdowns for the Wolverines (7-1,4-1). SBVC will play at 6 p.m. Saturdayagainst Southwestern.
VICTOR VALLEY 42, MT. SAN JACINTO 15 >> Quarterback Sam Allen threw for 383 yards and four touchdowns in the Rams victory over the Eagles. Allen also rushed for 39 yards while scoring two touchdowns. VVC will play at 7 p.m. Saturday against College of the Desert.
