Summit’s Jennifer Sandoval signs with San Jose State

Jennifer Sandoval liked the sport first, then realized it could be the means to an end.
Sandoval, the standout cross country and track and field runner, signed Friday with San Jose State.
“I felt like it was the right fit for me because … I got along well with the team,” she said. “I saw how their atmosphere was and their work ethic, and I really liked that.”
Sandoval was the Daily Bulletin runner of the year and a first-team runner for The Sun last cross country season when she finished fourth overall in Division II at the CIF State Championships at Woodward Park in Fresno. She completed the course with a time of 17 minutes, 32.8 seconds.
Sandoval said she had several scholarship offers, but wanted a full scholarship, which many of them were not willing to give. In the end, it was between San Jose State and Azusa Pacific.
“I know I’m going to need to get faster, I want to run three miles in the 16s,” she said. “So I’ll be OK when I run the longer distances in college.”
Not only does she expect to run cross country for the Spartans, she said she said in track she could run the 5,000 meter, 10,000 meter and/or 3,000 meter steeplechase.

Carter’s Marquise Green commits to San Jose State

“I felt like I had a good relationship with San Jose State,” Green said. “He (coach) talked about me getting my degree, and when football is over, you need to have a degree.”
It didn’t hurt that his teammate, safety Leni Toailoa had already committed there, but was not the overwhelming factor.
“He lives down the street from me and he recruited me hard, too,” Green said. “But I have to worry about myself.”
Green, the third Carter player to commit in the last few months, had 54 total tackles last year, one interception,
He wants to focus on his team and has some individual goals, too.
“I can mainly just focus on my team, getting to CIF and to state,” said Green, who had not gotten another Division I offer, yet. “I want to lead the CBL in picks and tackles.”

Zamore Zigler of Carter High picks San Jose State

Carter High senior Zamore Zigler seen above from an interview during his junior year after returning a punt for a touchdown, has committed to play football at San Jose State, coach Alex Pierce reports.

Pierce said Zigler has not yet made his trip to San Jose State.

Zigler, recruited as a running back, has only 47 yards rushing for Carter this season. But he has been explosive once again as a returner, returning four kicks (three punts and one kickoff) for touchdowns this season. He also has an interception and six pass deflections as a defensive back

Last year, he had five touchdowns on returns, including one against Colton, about which he is talking in the interview.
