Winter wishes from the Queen

Hello still-loyal subjects,

This time of yea

48820-xmas doo-thumb-300x409-48819.jpg

r we relish all the joy that flows from heart to heart. We also remember lost loved ones and celebrate children. It is a time for toasting, gift-giving and spreading happiness as far as we can.

I ask you to take this ideals and reach out to those less fortunate in the community. Donate to your favorite charity, take a blanket to a homeless person, give a needy child a toy. If your budget is too tight, then offer kind words, a listening ear and a smiling face. And consider inviting someone you know who will be alone to join your dinner or party.

It is only with kindness, no matter how small, that we will eventually create peace on earth.

Happy holidays!

Your royal servant,

Queen Mickie

About ROOM 13 LA:

Room 13 LA is a student managed and financed, multi-media studio at James A. Foshay Learning Center, a public school in South Central Los Angeles. 170+ student artists (ages 10-18) share the studio with a professional fine artist, Kathia Dungplata -hired as Artist-in-Residence by the students. The studio serves as an incubator for original, creative learning and problem solving; it is a place where professional artists can inspire and mentor young artists while at the same time getting re-energized by the young artists’ creativity. Room 13 is a successful model for art programs in this time of reduced funding. The Room 13 artists represent the Los Angeles of today – young, bold, expressive, inclusive, multi-racial, and creative. Room 13 LA is part of Room 13 International, which includes over 80 studios around the world.

If you’d like to be a sponsor, or for more information about ROOM 13 LA, please contact: John Midby at Room13LaFoshay@aol.com or 323 662 9425.

The end comes to McGinty’s Gallery at the End of the World in Altadena

Hundreds of Post-its are scattered throughout McGinty’s Gallery at the End of the World for visitors to take as a memory. Last night during the artists’ reception I found the right one: I was at the final Artbender at the Gallery at the End of the World and now I totally rock! You have three days to find your own…

This is the last show at the gallery, which is closing. Look over the events and make your plans so you can tell your grandchildren that you were there.

Tonight, Dec. 3, is the 1st Friday Art Club from 7 p.m.-1 a.m.

In addition to the fantastic array of art, from traditional to abstract in a range of media, there will be entertainment by Chico’s Bail Bonds and The Subs, plus sword dancing by yours truly accompanied by drummer extraordinaire Ric Sarabia. Admission $5.

Saturday noon-6p.m. is the Salon, which includes a potluck barbecue. Free, but please bring a dish to share.

Sunday noon-6 p.m. Tie One On, a Sunday brunch. Free, pot luck dish welcomed.

2475 N. Lake Ave., Altadena

(cross street is Mariposa, next door to the Rancho bar)
