San Bernardino’s Alex Mattison picks Boise State

Above, Alex Mattison talks in September about getting recruited despite people telling him he should transfer away from San Bernardino HS

I’m glad things are working out for Alex Mattison. He’s a great kid, who works hard and stayed at San Bernardino even thought many people thought he wouldn’t get scholarship offers unless he transferred to another school.
Last weekend, he gave a verbal commitment to go to Boise State to play football. He intends to sign on National Signing Day Feb. 3.
“I really had a good relationship with coach (Lee) Marks,” Mattison said of Boise State’s running back coach who recruited him. “He was there from the beginning talking to me.”
Mattison said he was the only recruit there last weekend and said he got to see a lot of things he might not normally have seen because he got individual attention.
“It’s a big campus, but not too big,” Mattison said. “And the blue turf is cool.”
Mattison, a two-time first-team all-Sun running back, is 6-feet, 200 pounds. As a senior, he rushed 151 times for 2,057 yards and 22 touchdowns in 10 games. He also led the team with 14 receptions, totalling 296 yards and three touchdowns. As a junior, he had 2,436 yards of total offense and 28 touchdowns in 10 games as a junior.
“I think their style suits me,” Mattison said of Boise State. “And I like that a lot of their coaches went to Boise. They’re really committed to the program.”
According to rivals.com, Mattison had scholarship offers from several schools including Arizona State, Washington and Washington State from the Pac-12.

While the Cardinals’ faithful can expect another solid performance from the running back as he conclude his high school career. It will be up to opposing defenses, especially from

the Mountain Valley League, to stand in his way and try to stop him.

But the elephant in the room is what will be next for Mattison following his senior year.

Mattison has several scholarship offers which include Pac-12 programs, according to head coach Jeff Imbriani, but it is not a guarantee that the running back will play in the conference.

The senior confirmed that Boise State, Washington and Arizona State are at the top of his list.

“Out of my offers right now those are the most communicative and interesting to me,” said Mattison.

He also mentioned Washington State as a program that completes his top four at the moment.

San Gorgonio Spartans quarterback Nate Meadors received a scholarship offer from the UCLA Bruins football program Nov. 16.

It is his 10th offer during the 2014 football season.

“I have received an offer (from UCLA),” Meadors confirmed. “I am not committing anywhere, just yet though.”

The offer from the Bruins was not just any offer to Meadors.

“It is my dream school,” he explained. “It means a lot to receive the offer and that the hard work is paying off.”

Until today, UCLA had been one of two programs that Meadors had a strong interest in, along with Stanford University, despite not having an offer from either program.

Stanford appears off the radar for Meadors at this point in the recruiting process, but the offer from UCLA has really heated things up within the PAC-12 conference.

The Bruins join Cal, Washington, Arizona State and Washington State as teams within the conference that have made an offer to Meadors.

He is being recruited as an athlete by most schools that hope he could fill the void of several different positions depending on a team’s needs.

The offer from the Bruins comes just one day after he took his first official recruiting visit to Boise State University in Idaho. He returned to San Bernardino tonight from the visit and it was in the airport that he received the offer from UCLA.

Meadors will rejoin the Spartans as they prepare throughout the upcoming week for a second round playoff game against Riverside Poly on Friday.
