The latest Sun high school football Top 10

REV’s Hunter Fuimaono tackles Redlands’ Tony Sandifer on Friday.

The latest Sun high school football Top 10:
We have one new team in (Chaffey) and one out (Carter). I watched Serrano, and didn’t really think their loss deserved to drop them in the rankings. However, I thought Summit had an impressive win over a fellow unbeaten team. So Serrano and Summit switching spots was more about being impressed with Summit than down on Serrano.
I really don’t think anyone in the Citrus Belt League is going to beat Redlands East Valley. But much of the drama in the league will surround the next four teams. I think Cajon, Redlands, Yucaipa and Carter playing each other will be interesting. So far, Cajon hasn’t played any of the other three. Redlands defeated Yucaipa and Yucaipa defeated Carter and now Yucaipa plays Cajon this week.
There’s plenty of room for movement in the upcoming weeks. There are 3 Citrus Belt League teams ranked, plus 2 others in the “under consideration.” The Baseline League has 3 teams ranked, the Sunkist League has 2, and Chaffey still has to get through perennial Mt. Baldy League power Colony to get through that league. Serrano is the only Top 10 team that doesn’t have another league team among the top 14 in the county.

After 3 weeks, Rancho Cucamonga is The Sun’s new No. 1

Rancho Cucamonga’s Aaron Manning runs against Don Lugo.

Here are my thoughts on The Sun’s Top 10 for this week.
Despite REV’s loss, I still there there are 3 elite teams in San Bernardino County so far: Rancho Cucamonga, Upland and Redlands East Valley, who all happen to have one loss.
However, Carter will get its chance to break into that top 3 by opening league play with Redlands East Valley next week.
While Serrano doesn’t play any Sun Top 10 teams, the Diamondbacks do play at Norco on Oct. 2, and Norco was the team that dealt Rancho Cucamonga a three-point loss, so a win there could vault Serrano into elite status. No. 6 Chino Hills will get its shot at Rancho Cucamonga and Upland in Baseline League and elite status. Until league play, No. 7 Summit’s toughest game is Week 5 at Riverside Norte Vista. If it doesn’t beat Norte Vista, a win vs. rival No. 10 Kaiser in Week 9 will be required for elite status. With 2 big losses (albeit to very good teams), I’m not sure if No. 8 Colony can reach elite status. No. 9 Cajon will have its chance against REV and Carter, while Kaiser does have Summit left, but has a convincing loss to Cajon on its resume, too.
