More Penalty Talk

Washington coach Ty Willingham was asked about USC’s 16 penalties.
“If I’m their coach I’m alarmed with that many penalties,” he said. “But at the same time I think our guys were playing and forcing some things. We probably could have got, they had 16 penalties? We probably could have got 32 on just holding alone because I think our guys were being aggressive and working and forcing them to do things.”

Penalty Box

“There might be every penalty in the history of college football called tonight,” USC coach Pete Carroll said.

You Didn’t Know Why

Why did John David Booty play perhaps the worst game of his career? Because he could not grip the ball properly.
“When it was about to come out, it slipped off my fingers,” Booty said. “It’s really weird. It was kind of windy out there but the ball was really slick.
If my memory serves me correctly, Matt Leinart complained after a close win at Arizona State that the heat caused the ball to become slippery and made the grip tougher. Must be a quarterback code of honor thing.
