71-year-old Pasadena man with Alzheimer’s disease goes missing upon release from jail in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES >> Police sought the public’s help Saturday in finding a 71-year-old Pasadena man with Alzheimer’s disease who went missing in downtown Los Angeles Friday evening after being released from jail following a DUI arrest in downtown Los Angeles.
Gerald Masao Sakamoto was last seen just after 7:30 p.m., when he was released from the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles, according to Pasadena police and Los Angeles County booking records. He had been arrested on suspicion of intoxicated driving by officers from the California Highway Patrol’s Glendale-Verdugo Hills area office about 3 a.m. after being involved in a freeway crash.
But two-and-a-half hours later, Sakamoto was nowhere to be found, Pasadena police Lt. Jason Clawson said. His wife reported him missing.
Sakamoto suffers from medical issues, including Alzheimer’s disease, police said.
He’s described as Asian, 5 feet 3 inches tall, 165 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

Covina grandmother missing for two months after mysterious disappearance

COVINA >> Sheriff’s detectives and worried family members sought the public’s help Thursday in finding a Covina grandmother who disappeared more than two months ago under suspicious circumstances.
Tamara “Tammy” Rummel, 49, was last seen on May 20 on surveillance camera, accompanied by an unidentified man, using a an ATM machine in Covina on the afternoon of May 20, according to Deputy Lilian Peck of the Los Angeles County sheriff’s Information Bureau.
Just before arriving at the Covina bank, Rummel is believed to have left her home in the unincorporated county area of Covina, “in an unfamiliar sports-utility vehicle with an unknown person(s),” Peck said in a written statement.
“Also suspicious, Tamara’s cell phone activity ended hours after the ATM transaction, and she has not been seen or heard from since,” Peck said. “Detectives would like to learn the identity of the man seen with Tamara at the bank, who may offer critical information in locating her.”
Detectives released bank surveillance camera photos of Rummel and the unidentified man in hopes of generating leads. Authorities had yet to determine whether the man seen in the bank surveillance camera images is the same who left Rummel’s home with her earlier in the day.
Rummel is a mother of four grown children and a “doting grandmother” of six, Peck said. She retired from a position as media director with a resource center for parent’s with special needs children about a decade ago.
“She is a responsible person who enjoyed home ownership, and interacting with friends and family,” Peck said. “Tamara’s family said her disappearance and complete lack of communication since Friday, May 20, 2016, is highly uncharacteristic and has caused them great worry for her welfare.”
Rummel is described as white, 5 feet 3 inches tall and 145 pounds. She has light brown hair and blue eyes.
Investigators also released a composite sketch of the man who accompanied Rummel to the ATM.
The person of interest pictured with her in the bank surveillance camera photos wore a white T-shirt and a baseball cap with a logo, possible a “B,” on the front.

Police seek missing West Covina girl

WEST COVINA >> Authorities are seeking a 13-year-old girl who went missing from her West Covina home Sunday morning.
Natalie Ilene Alvarado, who requires medication for a medical condition, was last seen about 11 a.m. near her home in the 2700 block of South Azusa Avenue, West Covina police officials said in a written statement.
She’s described as Latina, 5 feet 6 inches tall, 130 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

UPDATED: Missing Azusa woman found safe

AZUSA >> Authorities found a missing Azusa woman hours after police and concerned family members asked the community to be on the lookout for her Thursday, officials said.
Brittany Silva was last seen about 9 a.m. as she drove away from her family’s Azusa home, Azusa police Sgt. John Madaloni said. She hasn’t been seen or heard from since.
But she was found safe Friday afternoon, police announced.

UPDATED: 72-year-old woman with dementia goes missing in Pasadena; found safe in Altadena

PASADENA >> Police, aided by a good Samaritan, found a 72-year-old woman with dementia who went missing in Pasadena late Wednesday safe in Altadena, authorities said.
Darlene Ann Tave was last seen about 7:30 p.m. in the 1100 block of Wotkyns Drive, Pasadena police officials said in a written statement.
She requires medication for dementia, police added.
A good Samartian spotted Tave Wednesday night and notified authorities, who reunited her with her family, police said.

UPDATED: Missing Montebello senior turns up safe in Japan

MONTEBELLO >> A 73-year-old man with dementia who was reported missing by concerned neighbors earlier this week was found safe Friday in Japan, police said.
Jiro Kamai was last seen Monday at his home in the area of Sycamore Street and Bluff Road, Montebello police officials said.
“He suffers from dementia,” police said in a written statement. “He doesn’t have any friends or family in the area.”
Police began searching for Kamai after neighbors reported he’d gone missing, Sgt. Julio Calleros said.
After “some digging,” investigators determined Kamai had boarded a flight to Japan Wednesday to visit an ailing relative, Calleros said. He was in the company of family members.
Though it ultimately tuned out Kamai was in no danger, Calleros thanked the concerned neighbors who notified police when they became concerned for his well-being.

Police seek identity of elderly, disoriented man found in Arcadia

ARCADIA >> Police asked the public’s help in determining the identity of an elderly, disoriented man found disoriented on a bus in Arcadia last week.
The man exited a Metropolitan Transportation Authority bus in Arcadia just before 4 p.m. on Friday, Arcadia police Sgt. Jason Davis said.
“The male subject pictured stated his name is Jose Rivera (and) he is 81 years old; however, a records check of that name and approximate (date of birth) could not identify him,” police said in a written statement.
“He stated he lives in Lincoln Heights or Pomona, although he could not provide an address,” the statement continued. “He was confused at the time LASD Deputies located him.”
The man had possibly been riding the bus for hours, making several full circuits along the route, Davis said. It was unclear when and where he first boarded the bus.
He appeared in good physical health, Davis said.
A check of recent missing person report yielded no results in helping identify the man, he added.
The man is 5 feet 7 inches tall and 115 pounds. He has white hair, worn shaved, and brown eyes. He has a distinct scar on his right shin, a small scar on his left thumb and a mole on the right side of his head. He primarily speaks Spanish.

Missing West Covina woman with dementia found safe in Norwalk

WEST COVINA >> Police found a 62-year-old woman with dementia safe in Norwalk after she went missing from her West Covina home Thursday morning.
Christine Morris was last seen about 5 a.m. at her home in the 1900 block of East Tillie Court, according to West Covina police spokesman Rudy Lopez. She was reported missing at about 7 a.m.
“Christine has dementia (and) knows her name and birthday but cannot recall her address,” Lopez said in a written statement.
Morris walks with a shuffle, “as she uses a walker which was left behind.”
Police searched the area around Morris’ home, as well as local parks, malls, transportation hubs and hospitals, to no avail, Lopez said.
Officials announced Thursday afternoon that Morris had turned up safe in Norwalk.

Elderly woman visiting from Nepal goes missing in South Pasadena

SOUTH PASADENA >> Police are seeking a 75-year-old woman visiting South Pasadena from Nepal who went missing Wednesday afternoon.
Ruk Bhandari was last seen about noon, walking away from her family’s home in the 1400 block of Grevalia Street, South Pasadena police officials said in a written statement.
“Ms. Bhandari is visiting from Nepal and only speaks Nepalese,” according to the statement.
She is 5 feet tall, 150 pounds, with brown eyes and gray shoulder-length hair. She was last seen wearing a skirt, with pants, and gold earrings.

Police seek missing Monrovia teen

MONROVIA >> Police are seeking a 16-year-old Monrovia girl suffering from mental illness who left home in her guardian’s car Wednesday.
Briana Ysenia Valenzeula was last seen about 9:20 p.m. Wednesday, Monrovia police officials said in a written statement.
She was believed to have her guardian’s vehicle — as a silver, four-door, 2011 Buick Regal with California license plate 6NYL096.
“Her guardian contacted the Monrovia Police Department to report her missing and informed officers of the listed details, and added Briana suffers from mental illness and takes medication,” according to the statement.
She’s Latina, 5 feet 4 inches tall, about 175 pounds, with long black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a purple sweater and black pants.
“She may become aggressive if contacted,” the statement said.
