With Stanley Havili ineligible at the moment and Adam Goodman coming back from knee surgery, USC’s currently left with D.J. Shoemate or for pure blocking purposes, could move Rhett Ellison to fullback.

It increasingly looks like strong safety Kevin Ellison will not play in the Rose Bowl.
“I don’t think so,” Ellison said. “My knee’s been really sore.”

Fullback Stanley Havili is academically ineligible although Pete Carroll said his status could change by Monday or Tuesday. He cannot practice right now.

When USC played Penn State in the 1923 Rose Bowl, both teams wore their dark jerseys. USC and its opponents in the 1932, 1933, and 1948 Rose Bowls also played in their apparent dark home uniforms.

In Pete Carroll’s eight years at USC, he’s lost just one game by more than 11 points. In Joe Paterno’s first eight seasons, 1966 to 1973, Penn State lost 8 games by more than than 11 points. From 2001 to 2008, the Nittany Lions lost 12 such games.

USC and Tennessee are talking about playing each other in football but don’t expect a Pete Carroll vs. Lane Kiffin matchup. The soonest the Volunteers’ schedule is open is 2020.
