Senior Bowl
The Senior Bowl officially named linebackers Rey Maualuga, Brian Cushing and Clay Matthews and defensive linemen Fili Moala and Kyle Moore as the USC players who will participate in the game. We previously mentioned this along with the fact safety Kevin Ellison seemed like a strange omission.
Alert
We’ll have a live chat around 10 p.m. tonight.
Post-Practice Update
Nothing new on Stanley Havili. He is going to turn in some paperwork tomorrow and hope to get cleared. The big winner could be Rhett Ellison although Adam Goodman will practice full-time tomorrow. Blake Ayles remains inactive and looks like he will miss the game. Kevin Ellison is not expected to play.
Offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian said he’s prepared the past month without Havili because of his ankle injury, so it’s not a sudden change for the Trojans.
The offense struggled against the defense, especially during the blitz period. USC just left campus for the Beef Bowl.
Recruit Update
We hear linebacker Jelani Jenkins will probably visit USC next month. He already made an unofficial visit last summer with his father. If we had to bet, we would say Virginia is the leader right now for the Maryland native.
One Fullback Cleared
Adam Goodman (knee) was cleared by doctors to resume practicing as USC waits to hear if Stanley Havili will be academically eligible for the game.
Practice Alert
There’s a good chance that today’s practice will be held on McAllister soccer field (30th and Hoover) depending on how soggy Howard Jones Field is this afternoon.
Morning Buzz
C.J. Gable makes a decision about his NFL evaluation paperwork, Kris O’Dowd takes a break and a replacement for Dennis Slutak is on the horizon. All in the Morning Buzz.
