Pregnant woman punched during Pomona robbery; Upland man arrested

POMONA >> An Upland man punched and robbed a pregnant woman before the victim’s screamed attracted the attention of police, who arrested the suspect late Saturday, officials said.
Najune Taevon Hudson was booked on suspicion of robbery, false impersonation and resisting or obstructing arrest, Pomona police officials said in a written statement.
The crime took place about 11:30 p.m. in an alley running just to the south of the 900 block of East Holt Avenue.
An officer heard a woman screaming and spotted the victim, a 22-year-old Hemet resident, emerge from the alley, police said. She told the officer she had been robbed.
“The victim was pregnant and had been punched in the head by the suspect,” according to the police statement. She was taken to a hospital for treatment, but not before she pointed out the fleeing suspect, officials said.

Armed Upland resident helps deputies capture San Dimas theft suspect following chase

SAN DIMAS >> Two theft suspects led authorities on a chase from San Dimas to Upland before deputies arrested one of the men with help from an armed resident Thursday, officials said.
The incident began about 6:30 p.m. when two men snatched two Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge cell phones from a T-Mobile Store, 738 West Arrow Highway, Los Angeles County sheriff’s Lt. Tonya Edwards said. They fled in a car, which deputies soon spotted nearby on the 210 Freeway.
Deputies tried to pull over the car when it exited the freeway in Upland, kicking off a pursuit, she said.
The driver stopped the car and fled on foot in the area of 18th Street and Wilson Avenue, according to the lieutenant. The passenger took the wheel of the car and continued driving.
Deputies, aided by a helicopter overhead, set up a search perimeter in the area, Edwards said. As they closed in on the hiding suspect, he bolted.
An armed resident helped deputies stop and detain the fleeing suspect, she said.
Dajuan Robinson, 30, of San Bernardino was booked on suspicion of grand theft evading police, Edwards said.
The car and the second suspect were not found.
Police recovered the stolen cell phones near the spot where Robinson jumped from the car, Edwards added.

“Slurp” remembered at PCC

This from the PCC Courier:

Members of the PCC community are mourning the death of Darryl Stephens, a former football player at PCC who had a troubled stay on campus and died on Monday in a suspected suicide.

Stephens was found in an apartment in Upland after Upland Police responded to reports of gunshots on Sunday.

“According to Upland [Police], in their investigation, suicide was indicated,” said San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Sgt. Tony DeCecio.

“I cried like a baby [when I found out],” said PCC Professor Jessie Moore, who taught Stephens. “Darryl used to call me mom. He was that kind of guy. He had issues, like we all do, but was working on his issues.”

According to San Bernardino County Coroner Spokeswoman Sandy Fatland, Stephens was pronounced dead at 12:13 a.m. Monday at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center after an original injury at 10:23 a.m. Sunday described as a “gun shot to the upper body.”
