Village Christian 3, Maranatha 0 — Kendall Schmedes had 10 kills and 15 digs, Nicole Rodriguez had 20 digs, Emily Leung had 19 assists and Mikaela Ashworth had six kills and four blocks for the Minutemen (10-5, 0-1) in a 25-17, 25-22, 25-20 Olympic League loss.

San Marino 16, Arcadia 10 — Alessio Brunochelli had seven goals and goalie Aaron Wilson had had 11 saves to lead the visiting Titans (6-0) to the nonleague win. Royal Gong had three goals, Thomas Gao and Blake Jauregui each scored twice and goalie Sebastian Petcu had three saves for Arcadia (10-7).#

Mayfield retains top volleyball spot in SGV

Mayfield remains No. 1 in this week’s Top 25 volleyball poll after defeating St. Lucy’s in five games. South Pasadena made the biggest jump, five positions. Los Altos and Walnut entered the Top 25 for the first time this season.

Penalty-plagued Arcadia shuts out Glendale, 42-0

GLENDALE The Arcadia High School football team found it had to go backward to go forward.
The Apaches were beset by penalties in their Pacific League opener on Thursday night at Glendale. Eighteen times to be exact.
But all of the calls, which resulted in 151 negative yards, never seemed to matter as the Apaches (2-2) managed to push forward in a 42-0 victory. The final quarter was played with a running clock.

La Salle 13, Pomona Catholic 5 — The team of Laura Biosca and Corinne Dyson swept in doubles and Abby Siracusa and Julia Jones swept in singles to lead the Lancers (2-7, 2-3) to the Del Rey League win.
Pasadena Poly 12, Flintridge Prep 6 — The teams of Sami Collins and Tara Adarker and Sophia Terrile and Paulina Gavrilov swept in doubles for the Panthers (4-2, 2-1) in a Prep League win. Crystal Juan swept in singles for Flintridge Prep.
Maranatha 13, Heritage Christian 5 — Hailey McNall, Angela Hsieh and Natalie Orphali swept in singles for the Minutemen (5-3, 2-0) in an Olympic League victory.
