Select Sport
Here are three reasons the No. 1-ranked USC men’s volleyball team should win the national title: 1. The MPSF Tournament is being held at the Galen Center. 2. The NCAA Final Four is being held at the Galen Center. 3. In 2009, there was a grand tSpotal of 22 schools across the nation that played men’s volleyball.
A few weeks ago, I got on men’s swimming for not doing better when the closest quality programs were in the Bay Area.
But how many other coaches at USC wish their sport fielded 22 teams? The Final Four could almost be played at the start of the season.
Morning Buzz
Defensive end Nick Perry is going to join offensive tackle Matt Kalil and USC coach Lane Kiffin in New York on Thursday for the NFL draft.
ESPN draft guru Mel Kiper thinks Perry will go in the latter part of the first round.
“I think Perry is a late one,” Kiper said. “He’s a pass rusher. He had a real good year a couple years ago, then a lackluster year the following season and came on this past year.”
Be Like Pete
Last week Pete Carroll emailed his friends the video of a hologram of the late rapper Tupac Shakur performing at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Annual Festival. What other NFL coach did this? Here’s the video.
On Kalil
Last week we mentioned a quote from an NFL scout that USC offensive tackle Matt Kalil is overrated.
But Pro Football Weekly found an NFL-type with an opposite view:
“If the Vikings do not take (Matt Kalil), I think they are nuts. He will play 10 years in the league and be very good. I don’t think everyone is on the same page in the building yet. If you trade back, you run the risk of missing out on the guy you want.”

Morning Buzz
Former USC defensive tackle Armond Armstead has worked out for the Dolphins, Browns, Raiders and Patriots.
Armstead worked out for NFL scouts in early April and ran the 40-yard dash in 5.05 seconds. He also had a 30-inch vertical leap.
Personal Appearance Stories
If you interacted with Lane Kiffin today at South Coast Plaza or L.A. Live, post your story here. Last year a fan implored Kiffin to make the Trojans wear high-top cleats to prevent sprained ankles.
Moore To Penn
USC freshman point guard Alexis Moore will transfer to the University of Pennsylvania, according to his mother.
