‘Game of Thrones’-related beer available locally

Cooperstown, N.Y.-based Brewery Ommegang has released the first of its ‘Game of Thrones’-related beers.

Released in conjunction with Sunday night’s (March 31) season three opener of the HBO series, Iron Throne Blonde Ale is available in limited quantities at select Southern California outlets.

In stores, it’s available in 750 mL bottles.

I was able to pick one up today at Red Carpet Wine and Spirits, 8678 19th St., Suite 150, Rancho Cucamonga, which is limiting sales to one per customer.

Despite the name, Red Carpet has a great selection of local and hard-to-find beers.

New/old Barrel Roll coming to Hangar 24 tomorrow, other limited brews soon

Hangar 24 Craft Brewery is releasing its latest Barrel Roll limited edition brew tomorrow (March 30) and it’s another redux — Hammerhead.

Hammerhead is an American-style Barleywine made with two English caramel malts and four American hops. It’s aged for six months in charred oak rye whiskey and bourbon barrels.

The 2012 edition took silver in the Wood and Barrel Aged Strong Beer category at the Los Angeles International Commercial Beer Competition.

Hammerhead will be available on tap and in 750 mL bottles at the brewery, 1710 Sessums Drive, Redlands, and beginning Monday (April 1) at select California locations.

5,520 bottles were produced for this year’s run, on a par with last year’s. This year’s edition has a slightly lower alcohol content.

The next Barrel Roll release, scheduled for June, will be new.

Beers From Torrance’s Newest Brewery Make Hometown Debut Wednesday

Dudes’ Brewing Company has been making the rounds of beer-centric South Bay watering holes in the likes of Redondo Beach and El Segundo in recent days introducing their line of craft beer.

On Wednesday it’s Torrance’s turn when Dudes’ launch party comes to recently revamped (and reopened) gastropub 1321 Downtown Taproom Bistro on Sartori Avenue in Old Torrance.

“We will be featuring all four of their beers that day, along with their brewmaster, investors, and crew,” said 1321 spokeswoman Christina Long. “We’re giving away Dudes’ pint glasses and other goodies.”

Chef Jacob Kear, formerly of Father’s Office, has taken over the kitchen and revamped the menu (gone is the popular beer and bacon night pairings, although the mac & cheese was wisely retained).

More on Dudes’ Brewing Company is here.
