Results from the IE Track and Field Championship

Michael Norman of Vista Murrieta set a meet record with a time of 10.28 seconds in the 100-meter dash.

Citrus Valley’s Claire Graves held a brief lead before Sultana’s Stefani Gaskell surged ahead and wouldn’t be reeled in. Gaskell held off a strong kick from Graves to win in 10:52.00, which was .75 ahead of the Citrus Valley junior. Yucaipa’s Delaney Ellsworth was third (10:53.32).

The Redlands East Valley girls 400-meter relay team of Azariyah Scott, Madelynn Gray, Arian Brown and Emerald Bowens held off Rancho Verde to win the relay in what Bowens said was a school-record time of 47.85 seconds.

Redlands high jumper Alisha Edwards verbally commits to UCLA

Alisha Edwards of Redlands High School verbally committed to UCLA track and field program following her official visit over the weekend.

“UCLA not only has a stellar academic program but the team is equally amazing,” Edwards said. “The members of the track team made me feel so welcomed and they are just a genuine group of people. The coaching staff is great and I felt a great vibe as soon as I arrived (on campus).”

Despite competing in other events as a member of the RHS Terriers’ track & field program, she plans to only compete as a high jumper.

But before she can wear the blue and gold, she will represent the Terriers for her senior season.

“My goal (for my senior) season is to progress mentally and physically as an athlete,” she said. “I am definitely looking to reach my personal record in the high jump and repeat at CIF. My number one goal is state.”

With a personal record of 5 foot 8 inches, Edwards is no stranger to CIF and the competitive journey that comes with reaching the event. She was a member of the back-to-back CIF Southern Section Division 2 championship teams.

While she finished second at CIF-SS in 2015, she earned an individual high jump title in 2014.

Big Bear’s Caleb Webb signs with University of Portland

The two-time All-Sun Cross Country Runner of the year and two-time CIF State cross country champion has decided where he will run in college.
Big Bear senior Caleb Webb signed his National Letter of Intent last week to run at the University of Portland.
“It’s a smaller school and I come from a small town,” Webb said. “It felt like the right place. It’s nice to get this off my back.”
Webb said he was deciding between Portland and Colorado as to where he would sign.
“Caleb may be the most significant recruit we have ever signed,” Portland coach Rob Conner in a press release. “He is a tremendous student and extremely serious runner. Very few high school runners are ready to make an impact at the college level as freshmen but Caleb is the kind of talent that will. I couldn’t be more excited to have him joining us. … His range is incredible but we think he will lean toward the longer distances,”
Webb recently set a school record by running a time of 8 minutes, 52.17 seconds in the 3200 meters, surpassing the record of 8:55 set by Olympic marathoner and fellow Big Bear native Ryan Hall.

Citrus Belt League track and field results

This should be all the CIF-SS qualifiers from Thursday’s Citrus Belt League track finals. I believe Yucaipa, Miller and Cajon are Division 1 and Redlands, Redlands East Valley and Eisenhower are D2. Those with lines through them did not make qualifying mark for their division. I believe in only one event, the girls high jump, did a fourth-place finisher qualify for CIF-SS prelims.
