Carter High’s Leni Toailoa verbally commits to UCLA

UPDATED: Carter High safety Leni Toailoa decommitted from San Jose State to verbally commit to the UCLA Bruins’ football program, an offer he has had since July.

“It’s a big relief,” Toailoa said. “I was ready to be done with the process.”

The safety, ranked 13th in the West by Scout.com at the position, is commit No. 18 for the Bruins’ 2016 recruiting class that includes his older brother and high school teammate, Lokeni.

Carter coach Alex Pierce stated that he was not surprised with Leni’s commitment to UCLA, but he “thought there was one other school in the running, Arizona State. They were the first PAC-12 school to offer him but being around family was important to him.”

Lokeni announced his decision to go to UCLA at a ceremony in Rancho Cucamonga, the same event in which Leni made his verbal commitment to San Jose State on March 23.

The flip to UCLA places the brothers on a defense once again following their career at Carter High.

“It wasn’t anything,” said Leni, in regards to telling his brother about his decision. “We always knew we were going to go play together in college.”

The Toailoa brothers will led the Carter defense on Friday in its game against defending state champions, Redlands East Valley.
