Edson Alvardo signs contract to play soccer for Tijuana

California High School’s Edson Alvarado turned down his senior year of soccer to sign a professional contract to play for Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente in the Mexican League, former Condors coach Ivan Todorovic said.
The center midfielder helped the Condors to the Del Rio League title and a CIF Southern Section quarterfinal berth. California went 22-1 on the season.
Alvarado, 17, played on the Chivas USA Academy team. He will start for Xolos’ 20-and-under team and Todorovic said he could play with the major-league team in the next few weeks.
