WHITTIER – Bishop Amat High continued its strong girls volleyball preseason Thursday with a 25-21, 25-15, 25-21 sweep of La Serna in a nonleague match.

Mariah Jackson paced the visiting Lancers with 19 kills. Samantha Quesada-Diaz also played a major role in Amat’s victory with 15 kills.

After winning the first two games, Bishop Amat (7-2) withstood a La Serna rally in the third set. Trailing 19-11, La Serna won 10 of the next 13 points.

Tawny Flareau and Amanda Zagorski produced key kills during the run by La Serna (2-2), which also was helped by a few Bishop Amat errors.

La Serna’s bid to extend the match, however, fell short. Bishop Amat secured the win by scoring the match’s final three points, the last on Jackson’s kill.
