Dos Santos brothers called into Mexican national team

Both Giovani and Jonathan dos Santos will join the Mexican national team for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

The brothers will join El Tri following Sunday’s Galaxy’s game against San Jose. They will miss the Sept. 2 game against Colorado.

Mexico hosts Panama, Sept. 1 and visit Costa Rica, Sept. 5.

Galaxy complete transfer of Jelle Van Damme to Royal Antwerp FC

A move that had been rumored for a couple of weeks finally became official Friday as the Galaxy announced it had transferred defender and captain Jelle Van Damme to Belgium’s Royal Antwerp FC.

The Galaxy will receive $235,000.

Galaxy ranked as MLS’ most valuable team according to Forbes

The play on the field hasn’t lived up the standards of the Galaxy, but that hasn’t stopped the value of team diminish.

According to Forbes Magazine, the Galaxy has surpassed the Seattle Sounders as MLS’ most valuable team. According to the report, the Galaxy has an operating income of $9 million and brought in an estimated $63 million in revenue.

The Galaxy franchise is valued at $315 million, up 19 percent.

MLS increases number of substitutes for upcoming postseason

Major League Soccer announced Thursday that a fourth sub will be available for teams during the upcoming postseason.

The extra sub will only be available if the game goes to extra time and may be used regardless of the number of subs a team makes during regulation.

Other competitions that have experimented with the fourth substitute include the FA Cup, Scottish Cup, FIFA Confederations Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.

USL: Didier Drogba hits amazing strike against LA Galaxy II

Former Chelsea star Didier Drogba still has it.

Drogba, who is now playing with Phoenix Rising FC in the USL, unleashed a wicked shot from approximately 35 yards in Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Galaxy II. The ball hit the upper corner for a goal. Galaxy II keeper Clement Diop didn’t have a chance.

Robbie Keane isn’t done with the game quite yet

Robbie Keane ended a spectacular six-year run with the Galaxy. He said then he wasn’t done and this week, he was back in the news with word of his next adventure.

Keane has signed with Atletico de Kolkata of the Indian Super League. Keane had been a free agent since departing last November.

Kolkata is managed by Keane’s former Tottenham Hotspur teammate Teddy Sheringham.

“At this stage of my career, the offer to experience a new league and culture in Asia appealed to me,” Keane said. “To join the current Indian Super League champions is a great pleasure and through hard work, I hope to bring the ATK fans more success and enjoyment over the course of the 2017/2018 season.”
