Rise and shine! Vote with a free coffee at 7-Eleven on Friday!

Forget red states versus blue states….let’s talk red cups versus blue cups.

Ubiquitous convenience store 7-Eleven is giving its 7-Election campaign a big boost by giving away large cups of coffee from 6 to 10 a.m. tomorrow (September 28).

The chain is promoting it with a #CofFREEDay hash tag on Twitter.

Ooh…clever.

Ritual Brewing goes on the air

Ed Heethuis, Director of Sales at Ritual Brewing in Redlands, went on KFI 640’s Fork Report this past Saturday (September 22) to discuss beer and the new brewery.

A few of the tidbits gleaned from the interview:

  • Ritual is the exclusive beer provider for the Golden Foodie Awards.
  • Among Ritual’s brews is “Wit’s End,” a witbier made with local orange zest and coriander.
  • Bars and restaurants will begin offering Ritual Brewing beers this week (although there’s no mention of when the tasting room, 1315 Research Drive, will open).

Click over the jump to hear the interview, which begins right at the 20 minute mark, but you’re probably gonna want to listen to the whole thing.

Food trucks return to Cal State

Earlier this year, we had a blast checking out a trio of food trucks (Calbi, Crepes Bonaparte and Brats Berlin) which were visitors to the Cal State University San Bernardino campus.

I was wondering if the trucks would be returning in the fall, and it turns out that two of the three are!

The schedule is pretty simple: Crepes Bonaparte will be serving on Tuesdays Thursdays and Calbi will be serving on Thursdays Tuesdays.

Here’s the exact dates:

  • Crepes Bonaparte Calbi: September 25, October 9, 16, 23 and 30, and November 6, 13, 20, 27.
  • Calbi Crepes Bonaparte: September 27, October 4, 11, 18 and 25, and November 8, 15 and 29.

The trucks will park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. near the Coyote Bookstore, which is just to the left of the main University Parkway entrance.

If you want to print out a schedule to hang on the fridge, you can find one here.

For updates, follow Sodexo CSUSB on Twitter or “Like” ’em on Facebook.

Update: It appears that, despite what the schedule says, according to the trucks’ schedules, it’s Calbi on Tuesdays and Crepes Bonaparte on Thursdays. Of course, that’s subject to change.

Baker’s Drive-Thru, which regular readers of this blog know is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, is helping celebrate another anniversary today…the Oreo cookie!

The Oreo cookie was introduced in 1912, as a competitor to the very similar Hydrox cookie.

As always, you can either print the coupon or display it on your mobile device.

Redlands’ Dhat Island gives back

The gracious owners of Redlands’ Dhat Island, Carlo and Angela Alce, have, since mid-2011, been giving back to the community in the form of helping to provide meals for the homeless for an hour on Sunday nights.

The couple has recently expanded the outreach operation to every day.

Redlands Daily Facts reporter Ed Castro has details here.

To find out about volunteer opportunities or offer donations, please call Dhat Island at 909-792-1717.

Dhat Island is at 509 N. Eureka Ave.

A big Dine 909 thank you to Dhat Island for giving back!

Holiday Cafe opens, gets reviewed

Holiday Cafe in Ontario, which replaced one of the many Arby’s that closed earlier this year, has opened!

How do we know?

The Inland Valley Daily Bulletin’s very own lunch lady, Elaine Lehman, has already been there and has given us a review.

Although she only had a Chinese chicken salad, she seemed quite pleased with the place.

Looking at the menu, there’s quite a few things I’d like to try.

A plus: Breakfast is served all day, with the exception of lunchtime (11 a.m. to 2 p.m.) on weekdays.

Holiday Cafe is at 931 N. Milliken Ave., in front of Sam’s Club.
