Food trucks return to Redlands on Saturday

The Kiwanis Club of Redlands is hosting a food truck festival from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday (April 20) at the south entrance of the Redlands Mall.

Held as a precursor to Sunday’s A Run Throught Redlands, there will also be live music to entertain while you eat, plus a kids’ zone, sponsored by the Redlands Animal Shelter.

Hangar 24 Craft Brewery, Ritual Brewing Co. and State Street Winery will supply the adult beverages.

Cost is $5.

Organizers have scheduled 13 trucks for the event, including our friends from Suite 106 Cupcakery. Mill Creek Cattle Co. is also set to have a booth at the event.

Inaugural Riverside Tamale Festival coming Saturday

The inaugural Riverside Tamale Festival will take place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday (April 20) at White Park, 3936 Chestnut St., Riverside.

In addition to commercial and amateur “Best Tamale” contests, there will also be a tamale juggling contest, musical entertainment and a kids’ zone.

Proceeds from the free event will go toward the formation of the Trujillo Adobe Foundation, which has the goal of restoration of the Trujillo Adobe and revitalization of La Placita de los Trujillos.

Rounds Burgers rolls into Claremont

Rounds Premium Burgers has been in the Inland Empire before…as a food truck.

Now it’s in the Inland Empire…as a restaurant.

Rounds Premium Burgers (the restaurant) opened up a couple of months back at 885 S. Indian Hill Blvd., just south of the 10 Freeway, but its ribbon-cutting ceremony was just held last week.

Baker’s Drive-Thru hiring for soon-to-open Riverside location

On Facebook this morning, the fine folks at Baker’s Drive-Thru posted that they are now hiring for the chain’s soon-to-open Riverside location.

Prospective employees should apply in person at the future location, 10255 Magnolia Ave., a former Wendy’s.

Applications are taken from 9 to 11 a.m. and 2 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

What you’ll be saying in a week or so: I think I ate the bones!

Sure, Kentucky Fried Chicken has boneless chicken, and has had for a while now.

However, the latest offering from the ubiquitous fried chicken is its original recipe chicken, sans skin and bones.

The launch will take place April 14, with a two piece (one white, one dark) combo meal, with a side, biscuit and a drink, being offered for $4.99.

A 10-piece mixed bucket (four pieces of boneless and six pieces original recipe on the bone) will go for $14.99.

Hangar 24’s Homebrew Competition begins next week

Attention homebrewers…Hangar 24 Craft Brewery’s fourth annual Homebrew Competition begins next week!

Entries will be accepted beginning April 13.

First, second and third places in each category will receive prizes.

The grand prize winner will get his or her beer brewed by Hangar 24 for consumption in the brewery’s tasting room and will also be entered into the 2013 Great American Beer Festival’s Pro-Am Competition.

Oporto out, Fiesty Chicken in

Apparently, Southern California residents had little appetite for the Portuguese-influenced Australian chicken sandwich restaurant, Oporto.

The franchise owner of the three U.S. locations of the Aussie chain — which opened in 2011 — is converting them to Feisty Chicken & Grill.

The refashioned restaurants will open at 11 a.m. Sunday (April 7).

Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast is this weekend

Held in conjunction with the Redlands Bicycle Classic, the 63rd annual Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast will be held from 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. tomorrow (April 6) and Sunday (April 7).

Tickets for the event, held in the municipal parking lot at Sixth Street and Citrus Avenue in Redlands, are $5 and are available from Kiwanis members, at several downtown Redlands businesses and at the event.
